Sleepy,

Thanks for that info! I have friends that can get me just about ANY VHS tape I would like to have. I guess I'll have to get this one too and burn it to DVD like I did with Silent Movie, Buckaroo Banzai and D.A.R.Y.L. - even got Rose and the Sword from VHS to DVD. By the way, I DO OWN all the VHS movies above :) Can't find the heart to get rid of em!

Wow, 1979? I guess it's a cult classic like Ice Pirates (which I have) and Solarbabies (which I also have).

Thanks again.

It didn't do well on release, probably because the target audience was at the arcades and not at the theaters. Same with Tron a couple of years later, though the upcoming Tron sequel should do better.

I'd still like to find this movie. The original Tron was outstanding. Loved it. As for Tron 2.0, it's truly amazing Disney is STILL at work with it after years and years. Look forward to seeing that too.

Yes, the sequel is in 3D,
but you might have to return the glasses.

Ooh! Space Herpes! I also love that movie (Ice Pirates for those of you not in the know) Do you also have then Dark Crystal? Solarbabies sounds real familiar, gotta look that one up. I remember too 'Time Bandits', and 'Labyrinth' with David Bowie as the Goblin King!

Also have Time Bandits, Jabberwocky, Leprechaun 1 - 6, Smokey and the Bandit 1 - 3 and TONS more 70's and 80's movies. Also have the rare Legend director's cut release. Porky's 1 - 3, Waxwork 1 and 2, House 1 and 2.

I have boxes of DVD and VHS movies. Have some I have had luck finding at garage sales and other places. Dark Crystal I gave to my buddy to went to Iraq. He loved the movie so much and I had a SPECIAL edition.

Like I said, I'll have to look through all my movies. I really need to make a list. All the above movies are on DVD's! Amazingly, some are super duper rare in that format!

Solarbabies is about kids who are sent to "camps" and learn to "rollerskate" against other teams. They then come across this glowing ball who performs miracles and helps them along the way. It also helps them to be free from the confines of the "prison" type of environment they were sent to. GREAT FILM!

I rememberr solarbabies now! yes it was a good film! I try to watch every skateboarding/rollerskating movie that comes out both good and bad. i just hadn't heard of it in so long!

Summer of 1980, Venice Beach, California.
Rollerblades were the thing.
On the boardwalk, bikini babes on wheels and young Bloods skating and jumping four barrels, five barrels, ten trash barrels laying on their side in a row.
Chic on the box, "Good Times" and "Le Freak".
Firepower pinball in a nearby tent arcade.

Love "rollerskate" movies too, but we had the four wheel skates. I never used rollerblades.

I remember on TV and show called "Rollergames" where two teams would compete against each other. Had women and men on the teams and I would watch and go ballistic, cheering my favorite team. I really got into Rollergames and Rugby on TV but all the other sports to me were too lame to watch. :) I think Rollergames was on TV during the early 80's. I do miss that show very much! It was GREAT to grow up in the 70's and 80's! After 1991, it seems like everything went down the toilet!

gee and here I thought it was great to grow up in the 70's! and I think you are referring to RollerDerby. this was a professional mens and ladies league where they skated around a circular track beating the snot out of each other! The Bay City Bombers was the most famous of the teams! it was much better entertainment than American Gladiators ever was

Oh, you like the violent skaters.

YES! I used to watch that show when I was just a little boy and LOVED it. I sure do miss that show, like American Gladiators was just as good. Wish they were both going strong!

d

Hey Wil, I meant the older Roller Derby brawlers.
Yeah, Rollergames was good, and I went to a taping of American Gladiators back in the eighties.
They shot AG at Universal City with a live audience, about seven miles from here.
It was one of the few t.v. shows that didn't drag for the live audience, though each segment/contest was shot separately with breaks in between.

*I wish somebody would pay me up for suggesting both shows.*

WOW. I'll bet folks went ballistic over that. I would have went nuts watching those folks on AG live. It's like when I get all "riled up" watching any of Bruce Lee's movies.

Yeah, the audience was into it.
I remember seeing Zap.

Yeah, I'm not crazy about t.v. these days, between the trouble with *my folks* and the modern programming.

I really meant EVERYTHING in general. I mean, back in the 70's and 80's things were much more carefree, gas was cheap, a loaf of bread and gallon of milk were priced properly. All I can say is something happened. Everything is way too much as of late, you don't get paid enough and the funny thing is that my 90 year old Grandmother told me "by 2007, there will be another serious drepression in the USA". She was right. I didn't really think about it but now I am amazed how she told me this. She lived in the first depression and said it wasn't as bad as folks thought it was. Well, back then too you didn't have electricity either. She liked that too as she grew up with very little and left this world with quite a bit.

d

Did her folks own their own house and land and could they grow their own food when needed?
The depressions hit the cities and the renters the hardest.
It's all obligated dependencies and no land of your own.
