"See America First". Then "See America By Car" . Co-Opted into "See The U.S.A. In A Chevrolet" or so I thought. I am surprised to see the Chevy jingle dating back to 1952.

I always enjoyed the Smothers Brothers and think they managed several comebacks on network TV. One nite the 'Smothers Brothers' joked they had to change their original name 'The Smuckers' ... That was as close to saying 'Fuckers' as you could get. Corny but sophisticated entertainment. And YES Patty Cute, pardon, Duke's legs ...Very impressive in the farmers daughter bit. NICE

P>S> They inferred their name would have been "The Smuckers Fuckers".

This has absolutely nothing to do with that wonderful Smothers Brothers clip (who in our age group wasn't hot for young Patty Duke? Before John Astin went and ruint her?)... but more to do with the song Coily posted. There's a new mystery novel called The Girl On the Train. Every time I see the title, my brain immediately screams "The girl on the train keeps a-ringing BACK!"

I like embedding the videos. I wish YouTube would stop using ads with unrelated tunes ahead of a specific song. It breaks the mood. I mean...I want the ad to play to support the artists (often, my underground family, of whom I don't know anything about).

So I click the "Skip" to preserve my mood to the song that I was there to listen to in the first place.
EDIT: Embedding the video doesn't play the ad.

And The Association! Last time I saw them was at Knott's Berry Farm playing the park circuit, around 1989. There were about 200 people crowded around the mini outdoor stage, and I was able to get an autograph from Russ. They were still able to create that sound.

And what, exactly, does one do to embed said videos? I've farted around with all the BB stuff and still haven't discovered how.

I think it goes like this. And I swear. I'm swearing off knowing what I used to know. Altogether.

YouTube: Click Share (below the video). Then click the EMBED. Look for the iframe line that appears, highlight it in total and Copy it. Come back here.

Click the Go Advanced button to reply. Type two or more lines of filler so as not to break the front page Latest Posts feature. Uncheck the Automatically embed media (requires automatic parsing of links in text to be on). checkbox. Then paste the iframe code. Make sure the iframe end tag with the forward slash (the /) is intact.

That should do the trick. I hope. But again, I'm swearing off that phony Big W in Oxnard.

Yes! You da man, Arne! I never considered the fact that the first step I should take should be from the Youtube end of things. PS: I never get ads from youtube. It may be because I've got Adblock installed.

thanks for riffing, fellas.

i have to get adobe flash updated before digging in to the goodies. some kind of big security hole at the moment.

john astin was super enjoyable in the stuff i saw him in, so hopefully he wasn't too hard on poor patty. i remember something about her having abusive parents or somesuch, slipping in to a life of drugs and booze. or was that just her character from beyond the valley of the dolls?

shades of tuesday weld's sad story, maybe.

Yep, I do think she was a bit of a drinker... but I think she saved the "dolls" for onscreen acting only. Actually, Patty was in Valley of the Dolls, the slow, boring one. Beyond the Valley of the Dolls was the rock'n'roll boobie bonanza from Russ Meyer and screenwriter Roger Ebert. It's one of the greatest bad-movies ever! Rock and roll and boobies... three great reasons to download that new Adobe!

Sounds like the girls (and Macaulay Culkin) got stage mother-hubbard. That's how many in the biz raise their kids out here. You sing for your supper while the elders take what you got for themselves. Because the elders were deprived as children, and the circle is not broken.

Hell, they even did it to The Monkees, and they were on-camera doing the work.

Oh Man Yeah! Beyond the Valley of the Dolls!
They had that at the Sun-Val drive-in. At the age of 15, one night I rode my bicycle across the railroad tracks and parked on the residential sidewalk to catch that.
No sound, except for the neighbors.

The Fox Venice was frequent with the Russ Meyer films, especially "The Immoral Mr. Teas" and "Supervixens".

On a side note, I think the double bill one night was "A Boy and His Dog" with the X-Rated version of "Ken Russell's The Devils. The Fox Venice always ran the uncut versions, when available. Like "The Wild Bunch (director's cut)". And this was years before there was an official release of the director's cut.
This theater was frequented by industry personnel and by film students, so the conversations in the lobby during intermission were typically either technical or critical, and the prints were often fresh-mint. Even for a Herschell Gordon Lewis Night of "Gruesome Twosome", "Color Me Blood Red" (meh!), and Two Thousand Maniacs.

haha, sometime after i posted i realised i had prolly gotten them mixed up.

you know i've never actually seen either movie. but if "beyond" has more boobies than "perils of gwendolyn," that would be a major cinematic achievement(!)

so yeah, got flash updated this morning... off to get some guac and chicken soup now... i'll be back. btw how cold is madison dese days...?

It's gonna be above freezing on Wednesday! Shorts day! When I first moved up here, I was astonished at the freaks who hopped on their bicycles whenever the temp crawled above freezing and the sky didn't look like the inside of a ping-pong ball. Now I completely understand the effects of Stir Crazy.

That sounds like Pennsylvania. When the weather hit 50 degrees, the men were walking around in T-Shirts.

so that's dinah shore? she has a nice crisp, pleasant voice.

"corny but sophisticated entertainment" is a great way of putting it. they were years ahead of their time in the societal and political humor sense. the smuckers fuckers! XD

welp, youtube has slowed to a crawl right now. that's my trip down memory lane just at the moment.

interesting. i still wear my sandles around the square down to about 10ºF, but that's because of the foot inflammation and the way the snow feels good on my feet. but i'm also stir crazy all the time being so stuck in my apt, so that's my little thumbing of the nose against reality. :p

hey, as a table tennis player i really should see if there's a place in the world to play that's modeled on a giant ping pong ball. it might be a bit like the coitus scene from woody allen's "everything you ever wanted to know about sex..."

oh well, there's always stuff like this--

laurent-perbos-ping-pipe.jpg

Wow Tubal Tennis. That would even work in zero G. Extending the play tube could make that so much fun.

Thanks for the smothers brothers, I remember watching them when I was too young to know stuff about shit. That Patty Duke is not especially pretty or cute to me but I was young and had an older brother that stole some Playboys.

Because this thread has government in it's title, I'm going to embed a youtube tune vid about government from the share/embed tab on youtube:

Have to add some youtube comedy that was added almost 6 years ago to these forums, and it's still working! Classic "Stuff" from George Carlin:

Most of the models that I've met are some kind of manhater or tart. They're cashing it in for the money, sport. That's why they're "easy". And most of the photographers are women, for the same reason. This goes back to the 1960's. There was a photographer in Glendale, Ca who frequently shot for Playboy. Yes she did.

Next time, check his Adam's Apple.

i wasn't able to extend the play tube last time, and now i'm single again.

Does anybody remember..."The Smothers Brothers Show"?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0188362/
for some reason the link isn't showing for me but i eventually figured it out.

no idea they did that "brother the angel" show.

tried searching youtube, no results. but i did randomly rediscover the "my old man" bit, so all be right with my world:
