Asteroids + Deluxe
The culmination of my Asteroids work.
Play Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, or Asteroids + Deluxe.
Asteroids
- Asteroids bezel and backdrop
- White
- Asteroids shaped ship
- Multi shaped asteroids do not rotate
- Hyper Jump
- Simi-Auto gun
- Ship starts pointed right, and respawns in rotation when destroyed
Asteroids Deluxe
- Asteroids Deluxe bezel and backdrop
- Cyan
- Asteroids Deluxe shaped ship
- Singular shaped asteroids rotate
- Shields
- Mothership and swarmers
- Ship has same top speed but accelerates faster and has more friction for slowing down
- Full-Auto gun
- Ship starts pointed right, then in last position at spawn and emits particles at spawn
Asteroids + Deluxe
- Mix and match bezels and backdrops
- Cyan, white and yellow
- New shaped ship
- Multi shaped asteroids rotate
- Shields
- Mothership and swarmers with a bonus
- Enhanced UFO graphics
- Full-Auto gun
- Ship starts pointed up, and emits particles at spawn
All games have
- Separate particles making up a unique explosion pattern each time now
- Their own attract mode.
I made the UFOs act like the arcade version. Instead of just chasing the ship as they were in previous versions they come in from the side and travel horizontally and diagonally (if they are above the ship, diagonally down, else up)
The shields work nice now and are about arcade perfect and fade as they are used, and last about 14 seconds, though contact with something takes a few seconds off too. Also now, contact with a UFO with shields up destroys the UFO
Hyper jump is never safe, as the ship can appear anywhere, including in an asteroid or enemy, but the first 3 jumps are safe as long as you are lucky enough to emerge in open space. After the third jump though, you have a chance of exploding even if you emerge in open space. I think the math is close to arcade perfect, but perhaps a bit more safe.
If you play Asteroids you will use the Asteroids bezel and backdrop. Deluxe, the deluxe set. You can not change them, that is what Asteroids + Deluxe mode is all about, but if you do not want them you could set the alpha to fade them out, or just one or the other.
Changing game modes will clear the highscore table, and changing difficulty level will do the same.
Latest bugs fixed
- Short delay added to end of High score entering
- UFO would sometimes appear while your ship was exploding or waiting for a clearing to spawn
- The last version let you shoot and thrust while in hyper-jump (the sounds anyway)
- UFO sound would not stop sometimes
No known bugs, or quirks that I was willing to let go are left.
