Williams Solved Big Deal (Williams, 1977) Preservation Question

I just purchased a display (not sure what the official name is) for the Williams Big Deal pinball machine. It is in fair shape, some of the picture is starting to flake off. I would like to make it so it stops flaking, and then hang it on my wall. I am wondering if any one has an idea how to go about this. My first thought is to use a clear varnish on it....but not sure if that's the best idea.

This is not the exact one i have but its similar.

clear enamel in spray cans makes a good backglass sealer. 3 - 4 coats works best.
