Aw no. I have a satellite family member who's been running down the geniuses in the linage. But I can't make heads or tails from this article of why or what Charles did.

Actually though, I found a wikipedia page about him, and he is credited with discovering "respiratory pigment" and its relevance to the exchange of oxygen. AKA Cytochrome1. Apparently, he was also awarded a couple of badges by The Queen for service during The Boer War, and another ancestor was knighted for service in India during the period referred to in the movie "Khartoum". Both are recognized authors, but I've never heard of them.

And the other one who served about the time of The Indian Rebellion of 1857 is Sir George Fletcher MacMunn. He wrote many books, a few of which are still in print and available at amazon.com, and had something to do with the classification of the Indian "Martial Race" as the British designation of tribes who were considered to be valued combatants for The British Empire. I am not comfortable with the knowledge of that system, though it appears that Sir George was more about Indian anti-apartheid.
