hello, i am a novice pinball collector, and have recently added a Demoliton Man to my collection. the machine was working perfectly, minus a few lights being out, and some worn rubbers. the other night, i replaced a bunch of rubbers, and also a bunch of bulbs.. many of the bulbs on the right hand side of the machine once replaced still did not light up. they were the lights near the bottom of the playfield, and they were lit on the other side, which leads me to believe the problem is something different.

another thing i ran into was, that when bulbs were replaced, and i closed up the machine to play again, the Volume had suddenly Gone up to its Highest Setting!. I am now not able to access any of the mode functions with the service keypad. none of the four buttons do anything.

so far, i have replaced the switches on the coin door, and also for the heck of it i tried jumping the pins on teh service keypad to see if it was that causing the issue.

neither thing made a differnce, and now i'm stuck with a pin which is VERY loud, and i fear playing it because of waking up my wife, kids, as well as blowing the speakers!

lol.. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jay,

The problem with the switches sound to me like a pitched wire. It could have happened when you lowered the playfield. Try raising the playfield and see if you can regain control.

As far as the lights go, are you referring to GI lights or playfield feature lights. If it is the GI lighting, on Williams WPC machines, those lights are dimmable by the driver board. I would have to double check the schematic but it could be a burnt transistor on the circuit. Can you post a picture for the playfield lighting issue??

tips

hello, thanks for the reply. i never raised the playfield when i was changing the bulbs, i was just doing a lot of the bulbs with the glass off of the machine. the ones i cant get to work are just in front of the right hand flipper to the right side. i will take a pic tomorrow and post it. also, i will try to re trace my steps with the wires..

it is driving me nuts because the game is too loud to play, and i dont want to blow the speakers.

thanks for your help.. will post pics in a bit.

status update on demolition man

just spent another hour down there replacing multiple bulbs, but i still cannot get power to pretty much any of the bulbs on the right hand side. i looked at the wiring, and was wondering if these work in series?

i was missing one larger bulb completley, which i put a new one in, but that did not make the others work. could it be that i have one bad bulb further up the chain which is causing the others not to work? any advice is appreciated. there are at least ten smaller bulbs along the right hand ramp, and down near the front rigth flipper that are not working.

also checked for any pinched wires and did not see anything.. i cannot get this service keypad to work at all.

any more ideas as to what in the world could be cuasing this???

i was pretty careful in my work not to hit anything. the game is on full blast, and it is very annoying.

please let me know if anyone has any other things to look at .

thanks!

jay

For the lights, check connector J15 on the driver board for signs of heat damage. If that does not seem to be the problem, we will need to fix the operator controls to check further.

As far as the switches go, check the orange/violet wire on the service switches to make sure it is not ground. Another thing to try would be to find connector j205 on the driver board. Pin 8 is the other end of the orange/violet wire. Remove the connector and using a small jewelers screw drive or even a small paperclip, remove that wire and connector from the housing. Reconnect the connector and see if the volume down will work.

Open up the backbox and disconnect (unjumper?) the speakers for the time being? Or maybe even add a couple of pots if it's not too much trouble?

find a cheap car radio speaker and test it using that so if it DOES blow
it ain't the one from the cab
and that bulb prob does indeed sound like a short or pinched wire somewhere
