Hi! Fairly new to the fantastic world of pinballmachines. Just bought a DM...just love it. Just one tiny problem that makes me really wanna tilt it from time to time. To get a multiball you have to hit the left loop with the ball and then into a sinkhole. Problem is that like 7 out of 10 times the ball bounces back and doesen´t lock into the sinkhole.... don´t really now how to adjust this either. I have 6.5 degrees angle on the playfield and everythin else works just fine. Checked it out up close when I had the ramps dissembled but it´s just a metal flat that keep the ball from bouncing back, and that looked fine..

Please...:help::help::help::help::help:

How it looks....

Fixed it....

Used some lightly padded rubber tape. Put some on the wall the ball bounces back from, and back on the metal flap.

Hello, I am completely new to both pinball machines and forums, so I have no idea where to turn for help. I have a Demolition Man, and it was operating just fine, the claw was fine, but the other day I decided to clean the glass, I have had it out before, put it back, played some more, and noticed I cleaned the glass with more smudges than it had before, so back out with the glass, while I am cleaning the glass, my son decides to hand roll balls at the claw, I turn to see him doing it, and tell him not to it might trip a limit switch or something, and low and behold, after that the cryo claw starts having errors, I went through the setup and testing, and it changes errors from claw motor, to claw out of adjustment, to checking the cables, never stays the same error.

I am NOT a pin ball mechanic, but I am a mechanical and electrical inclined person, I own two motor repair shops, so I am familiar with prints and problems both mechanical and electrical. I ordered a repair manual off ebay just a few minutes ago, but I am wondering if anyone could help me out a bit?

There is nothing physically broken that I can see, the elevator did work, now it seems to be stuck UP, but no matter what, when turned on, it goes through the high player scores and will not go into free play, I tried turning off the claw to see if it could be played with it off, but no dice. Again, I have no idea if asking for help is proper on here, there is so much stuff. I live in Kansas City Missouri, and at the least if someone could point me to a legit repair outfit, that might just do the trick, as I am not sure if I have the time to fuss with it. However, I have no problem taking it down to the last nut and bolt, I own two shops, rebuild motors and controls up to 5000 HP, so I know a pin ball is very complex and knowing the industry is just as critical as mine, so if I go into repairing this thing, I am hoping someone would be kind enough to point me in the right direction first, I do appreciate any information anyone would provide. I volunteer on allexperts.com and help people with electrical issues, so I know it is more than a one word sentence, and that takes time, so in advance thank you for offering, my son is 15 and this was one of our favorite things to do together, of course he had the high score by 10 times mine, but was fussing around with it, and now feels bad, although I assured him I could take care of the problem. Again, thank you.

opto switches?

Hi! There´s a section in the Operations Manual regarding claw/elevator faults.

Here´s what it says... "Claw motor error" This message is displayed when the CPU is unable to detect movement of the claw arm. This can be caused by a non-functional claw motor, or either of the position optos beeing broken.

"Arm out of range" Claw is positioned out of range. Can also be caused by one or more broken claw position opto switches.....

So look at the switches, same for the elevator, it has one optoswitch that decides if it´s up or down.....

I´m from sweden, so I´m sorry to say that I don´t know any pinball repairguys in your area.

Best of luck // Johan from Sweden

Demolition Man Claw problem help

It was very kind of you to take your time and help me, I cannot imagine what he did, but I have got everyone of those errors, but they never stay the same, when it boots up and the message warnings appear, it went through everything you said, the only thing I did, was found out it is a gear motor, by GENTLY and I have repaired motors for 35 years so I know how to find out without trashing a gearmotor, this one will move, I figured he ran a ball up there and somehow ran the claw motor passed some kind of limit switch, and it needed to be moved back or reset, but maybe he broke something,

I cannot see anything with the board up and out, but now that I know what I am looking for it will make much more sense,

I did get an error on switch 62, it would come and go, but never seemed to have any effect on anything, I was not going to chase something intermittent, I figured when it went I would be able to find it faster

I appreciate your help so much, this game is one thing we can do together and it costs only the power to fire it up, hours of time with your kid for a bit of electricity is one hell of a buy,

So it is more important than just a broken pinball machine, so again thank you very much, I will report whatever I find, if this is the right place on this forum to be reporting it, so hopefully it will help someone else,

Thanks so much and I will let you know what I find, hopefully I will get the manual soon, it is shipped, I have no idea if it has much as far as repair, they advertise this stuff and sometimes it is just the users manual, but it has a red cover, says it has wiring diagrams, so if it does, it will be huge help,

But just your help is priceless, again thank you

Will

Again, thanks so much, if I find out the gear motor is bad, I will also find out if is repairable, if it is, I will be able to repair it, and will offer that help to anyone else, what makes a motor non repairable, if it is riveted together, and there is no way to reclaim the run out, we have replaced rivets with bolts and nuts but many of these smaller motors are sleeve bearings, with riveted end housings then riveted bearing caps, a ton of labor to get everything aligned again, but if it is bolted it probably can be rebuilt, repaired, even rewound, but I think I have a sensor issue, anyway thank you so much Will

Something weird just happened, I looked all over and could find nothing physically damaged, slip the bed back in and when I turned it on, the message says opto through bad, check wires and switches and 12 volt supply, this is completely new, is there a pattern here? I appreciate your help but I am now wondering if I have complicated the problem or does this error message tell me just what you told me only this is this is the overall issue? Will

Hmmmm....

through problems are farily common on these games. Soldering joints crack due to vibrations and so on. Should´nt have anything with the claw/elevator problems that you have.

www.pinballhq.com has some really good stuff to read about through problems....

hope you´ll fix the game!

though problems and soldering Demolition Man

Thank you so much, what is a though problem anyway? I am not educated on the terms, I do understand cracked and high resistance solder connections, and understand even a high resistance connection from a spade connector.

But you say that should have nothing to do with the claw, but the fault cleary says "though connections bad, opto something bad, check connections and wiring" something like that I don't have it on, but it comes on every time now,

So would you say that the auto display diagnosis is probably not as reliable as I am thinking it is?

I know to trust you guys and gals that have been through these problems, and I would much more trust your knowledge, and experience than an automated diagnosis on the screen.

So I will visit the site you sent me and once again, thank you so much, your experience and time to reply is greatly appreciated.

Will
