Does Anyone Here Miss Going to The Drive-In Movie?

Sleep if you want. Dusk 'til Dawn all-night movies on The 4th of July with A Live Fireworks Extravaganza. Group pricing "Buck-a-Carload".

And strangely enough, one of The Only Ways you could ever get to watch
movies like Cannibal Feroux(sp?), George A. Romero's "Dawn of the Dead",
Texas Chainsaw II or Russ Meyer's "Supervixens" as they were Unrated and rejected by the mainsteam indoor theaters.

Shown on an outdoor screen often in residential neighborhoods where the screen was in full view of the local community, which was how this young buck once got to watch part of Russ Meyer's "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls", by riding my bicycle and parking on the sidewalk right outside the drive-in fence on a residential street.

Miss it? Hellyeah.

One memory is watching Young Frankenstein. The second day though. I had to go the next night because I did not remember a moment of the night before and i really wanted to see the movie.

When a good cook says share one before the show and save the other to share later, don't each eat one.

In Los Angeles there is only one drive-in remaining, in The City of Industry. Though the format had been slowly disappearing from this area, they seem to have been discontinued in one sweeping move at about the same time that Piracy became an issue.

Are the drive-ins still up and running where you are?

Only one within 60 miles of me is in South Jersey. Still quite a few open in PA but none in the southeastern area.

I've never been to one, in southern CT they went extinct before I ever went to my first movie, all the time as a kid traveling with my folks around New England I think I only remember seeing one or two.

There used to be one called The Anthony Wayne Drive In
in Wayne NJ back in the 70's
I first saw Blazing Saddles there!along with numerous b movies
I recall the swingset getting trashed almost every weekend.
usually set a blaze by some drunk kids and the speakers getting ripped off their posts
by idiot who forgot to take them off their windows before leaving!
ah the good old days where you could attend a movie half naked/drunk
with a car load of giggling girls and a trunkful of beer
and a cigarette pack half full of joints!
then they go and tear it all up to build a mall!
Idiots! the drive in was way better than a stupid ol' mall
I miss it now and as far as I know that was the last holdout in north jersey
now I get to 'enjoy' my movie with a thousand screaming kids
stuffed into a closet of a theater that holds four movies comfortably
but has ten playing at the same time
with my $10 dollar soda, my $6 junior mints
my $8 cheesy fries, and of course my $9 movie ticket!
ah what comfort, NOT!!
gotta remember to thank the inventor of dvr's with pause buttons!
and living room couches and my own bathroom
where I KNOW who pissed on the seat last! :)

I should have looked at that site more closely.
Jonathan Frid of "Dark Shadows" tv fame died last April, and I didn't even hear of it.
So the movie was released after his death?

Great times in my youth, when I did have a car...

Most memorable would be "seeing" Pink Floyd The Wall, when I had the old Panel Van, kick ass stereo, clip the sound output to ya aerial and 2 OZ of leaf for effect, great night out that was...classic intermission break..:)

The Movie Dark Shadows is new and stars Johnny Depp
the TV show was back from 66-71
that one was the better show imo
there was also a movie starring Jonathan Frid called House of Dark Shadows
in the new flick he has a cameo so yes that was filmed before his demise
he was the epitome of all things evil on the tv show imho
but always played the gallant host

Eh it was only leaf and I had a good dozen or so packed into the back there, that was a great deal with the drive in at night pay for 4, smuggle the rest in the back under the mattress and pillows. Though for effect the smoke billowing out the doors at intermission was classic.

lol sounds like a superb time to be honest. i guess not many were doing vaporisers back then, nor were the authorities as maniacal as they are in the states, i.e. why bother.
