Heavy Metal Meltdown
I have a Dr Dude that is working perfectly except that the slingshots are not working. They do score but do not fire, so I know that the switches are OK. They do not fire in test.

I have a Heavy Metal Meltdown that was doing the same thing, and there was an adjustment in the setting that allowed the user to turn off the slingshots. I am not sure why anyone would want to turn the slingshots off, but it was there.

Does anyone know if Dr. Dude has the ability to have the slingshots turned off?

OR does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can try? I tested all of the fuses in the backbox and they are all good.

Thanks!

Thanks for sending these. I actaully have them but after looking through them, I can not find where there is such an adjustment in the settings. I am pretty sure that this era of Bally machines had this option (again because my Heavy Metal Meltdown) was like that. What a nightmare of trouble shooting until that was figured out!

Anyway, I don't know what setting needs to be changed, so that is what I am hoping that someone knows.

I also looked through all manuals on it
and I can't seem to find any option that lets one turn off the slings
but it does have three gameplay settings, easy medium and hard
maybe one of these shuts off the sling solenoids?
I did find someone who wrote all the rules of it though
http://pinball.org/rules/drdude.html
and a worldwide list of current owners
maybe you can get in touch with one of them for the sling options?

hope some of this helps ya'

WOW, thanks for taking the time to provide all of that information and look through the manual. I am glad it wasnt me. I bet you are right about the easy, Medium and hard settings. Maybe easy turns the slingshots off. I will check that out.

I am very familiar with my Dr. Dude machine. I have never seen an option to turn off the slingshots. None of the easy/hard settings turn off the sling shots.I have had problems with the Molex connecters burning up.

slingshots not working. solenoid #'s 18 and 20 powered by cpu board Q71 and Q69. check continuity of wires blue-red and blue-yellow fron cpu jack j19( lower left 1 up from bottom) pins 4 and 6 to slingshot coils , do this with machine turned off. if wiring checks out fine unplug all cpu jacks , remove cpu board and check solder connections on j19,Q71, and Q69 areas. resistance test check for shorts or opens on Q71 and Q69. if everything checks out fine so far , U45 quad nor gate 7402 prob. a sn7402 feeds both of the Q71 and Q69 output transistors should be replaced as the next step. i usually de-solder with cpu batteries removed. de-solder and remove U45. i usually install a chip socket instead of soldering the chip direct to the board ( prob. a 14 pin dip socket ). install new chip into socket with dot or dimple on chip in the correct direction or it will not work or cause damage to board. hopefully 1 of these tips will solve your problem.

Thanks for the help. I tested continuity which was good. The 2.5v slo-blo fuse under the playfield keeps blowing. The Big Shot coil looked like it had overheated, so I replaced it, just in case. It does not overheating now because it never gets power, that fuse blows as soon as the game turns on (the slingshots and big shot coil never work even right after changing the fuse.)
Now it will be onto checking what you posted about the CPU, maybe that is what is causing the fuse to go.
Thanks again!
