Enders Game..

Apparently The Cannon Group threatened to pull the film production due to financial woes. And the director then threatened to cut off his finger with a pocket chain saw in the company's office if they did.

"Life's a Stage.
The universe is a cage."

first line is a nice truism, second line is a cry for a sympathy party. is that how you want to be remembered...?

I take issue with the idea that All the world's a stage,
and I do believe that Now is the winter of our discontent.

I'd say "Life's an experience. The Universe unfathomable."

To elucidate further I find...

"Life's a Stage.
The universe is a cage."

To be religious rhetoric and pandering, whist I know it is a case of happens, chance.

Don't forget, "Resistance is futile" (The Borg Queen, and her drones)

Hah! I believe that! The Cannon Group was like a Bizarro world version of Mirimax... cheapo sleaze merchants who sometimes accidentally released something good. Remember how truly, unutterably awful Superman IV was? Guess who put 90% of the budget in a dump truck and drove it up to Christopher Reeve's house? Good ol' Cannon!
Damn... who was the crazy director? Before I consult the gods at IMDb, I'm gonna guess Barbet Schroeder. Hey, nailed it! Still a few healthy brain cells floating around in there! He also gets points for Single White female which featured naked Jennifer Jason Leigh. I know, I know... what film was she in that didn't feature naked Jennifer Jason Leigh, but Schroeder still gets to keep his points!

These are not my personal feelings. They are messages I get from 'Barfly'. For quite some time life did seem a stage but eventually the acid wore off...C_S

HAH! The problem wasn't that it wore off, the problem was that you quit taking it!

BTW, I think everyone's forgetting the one statement that explains our existence on this big blue ball.

Though not very profound, this was one of my friends favourite quotes and he used to say it all the time when reaching into his pocket for a few dollars at the local or opening his tobacco packet or papers or stash bag...

...It's empty!

RIP Bongo

some good quotes and thoughts there, bruddahs. i'm a big fan of the b-banzai one, as well as others from that movie, such as a furious christopher lloyd screaming at john lithgow: "that's big boo-TAY!"

actually, some acid or shrooms or something sound nice right about now. set, setting... turn it on in the presence of the local t. leary. you know, to hold my hand through the process. but i wouldn't know. all i know is that i hit a wall a couple months ago, and social drinking is not really the brilliant solution it seemed at first blush.

woe is me. :(

The drivers approach the new guy after work;

Bobby: "Hey, Jim.....we were wondering if you'd like to come have a drink with us."

Reverend Jim, after thinking for a few seconds: "What did you decide?"

Jeezum Crow, I forgot that Christopher Lloyd was in the movie! Despite the fact I saw it at least 5 or 6 times in the '80s, all I remember is what I posted above and Lithgow's side-splitting reading of the line "Laugh now, FAH-ny boy!" Memory lapses are probably due to a healthy usage of the substances you listed.

You know, my girlfriend mentioned being able to get some shrooms, but I decided against it. I think I've retired from the major hallucinogenics... happy enough with the more mild "chiba" variety. But, hey... just checked google maps, Nic. They say it's a 7-hour drive from you to me... I'm betting you can knock it down to 5!

well, i'm finally watching buffy's hush episode. 3/4 through at the moment. horror and american sitcoms are not at all my thing, but a couple IPA's are helping me make it through.

i guess once i saw betelgeuse (as corny as it was) i was ruined for all time on this stuff. :p

anyway, thx bill! i got rid of my car a long time ago, so would probably have to ride santa's little helper or something for a potential maddy-son trip. two other people recently invited me to texas, as well. could we get commander james montgomery scott to help me out, say? beam me around the country a bit?

other than that, i keep trying to tell y'all that i own a cell phone! a POS 4G thing that's a complete waste of money, but it's hanging in there for the moment despite a near-fatal water splash from a couple years ago. the bag of rice trick just barely saved it, i guess. :s

i understand the reluctance on heavy mind-warpers, though. i never got the impression that they were meant for regular ingestion... more for vision-quest type of stuff. like... an event that can both heavily inspire one for the rest of their life, and/or re-wire the brain somewhat permanently. anyway, i've never done, and am still tripping over my own feet and my own neuroses on a regular basis, so maybe i just need a shot of bravery.

has anyone got a shot of bravery lying around? :)

Those mushrooms are a bit un-predictable. They are the only thing in the category I come close to trusting these days. They are best when you are already having a good time with friends and drinks(Freaking Hilarius). I caution against smoking the chronic while on shrooms. DO NOT watch television...I made that mistake twice...Never quite been the same since having two very profound experiences.

The one on my not-to-do list is playing pool. I kept shooting the cue ball off the table because I was trying to take into account the waves in the table that only I could see. My friends finally took the cue away from me, gave me a quarter and, with a whack on the ass, herded me towards the Galaga machine.

@nic: NEVER trust anyone who invites you to Texas! You will never be seen again! Well... I wouldn't say "never". They will find the torso, but they ain't never gonna find that head.

Ruby Ruby. That's Juarez, Mexico. Not Tayhaus.

Hey Ike. How do you feel about the classic Twilight Zone?
It it horror, or critical thought?

I don't care for gratuitous horror, though I can find humor in over-the-top gore, as long as it is obvious strictly as a malaprop or satire of movie-making.
I mostly like smart cautionary tales of horror with no bubbleheaded pawns.

This is probably due to my infant childhood. My folks would deprive my sleep until
I started paying attention to the television, sitting there like the RCA dog and listening to "His Master's Voice" (Note: Lucy selling products), so I was drawn to horror films, partly by my older Brother's sense of sadism, but for my part, to work out the conflicts that my folks were discreetly inflicting.

So I watched stuff that had to do with troubles, in order to cope with them.

Okay guys.

This is OSCAR® Sunday and I am the only one here?

Are you all in Church or something...?

Actually I was at church, we have a group of locals that always go to the local hotel of a Sunday morning for a blessed pint or 7, we call it church and if you don't attend, questions are asked. ;)

Hey... you're ahead of us by the ol' clock, right, Steve? Since you're living in our future, who won the Oscars?

@bill,
well, one of them lives 75% of the time in this area, we pal around a lot, and the other is an old internet buddy i met through a SIG... and we have lots of mutual FB friends. in fact, the latter one wants me to come down to help her pick out some guinea pigs, since i convinced her to get some. (me being peruvian and all!)

but did you have a juicy TX horror story to relate? :D

@sleepmaster 2000,
yes, indeedy... agreed perfectly up until the childhood stuff. well said.

So you don't agree with my childhood either. I know I was there.
That's why I loved my graduation.

I'll go out on a limb. I'm only following the music categories.
I'll say "The Moon Song" from the film, "Her" for best original song and
probably "Saving Mr. Banks" for best score, though I also like the score for "Philomena".

Pharrell Williams is on a hot streak, so he might get the nod for being the current popular choice, though his song, "Happy" from Dispicable Me II sucks. One great riffbook riff surrounded by 70% filler.
Eat me, phony hipsters.

Now, I haven't seen any of these films. I'm going by YouTube.

EDIT: Big Stupid. I missed the U2 nom. That'll get it.

This is the worst fucking Oscar ceremony I've ever watched... and I watched the Rob Lowe/Snow White disaster! Just about every presenter acts like they were punched in the stomach right before they came out. And Harrison Ford acted like someone ripped his heart out of his chest. I predict a very quiet trip to rehab in Indy's future.
