Hello,
So I saved a Gottlieb Far Out machine from being junked and I've made some progress towards bringing it back from the dead. It was stored outside for some time and generally abused before that so the insides were pretty dirty and it's been a long way to get to where I am now.
Here's where I'm at. As long as I manually trigger the reset bank and also manually advance a stepper unit in the back box (that I believe is the player unit) a couple of ticks prior to pressing start, the machine makes a ton of noise and serves up the ball (sometimes I have to also manually set all the score reels to 0, sometimes it resets them correctly). This seems to be ok (aside from some buzzing come from a bank of relays next to the score reels) and you can play a game... ..sort of.
1. It seems to only want to play in 4 player mode no matter what I do.
2. Sometimes score is added randomly in increments of 10 points.
3. After each of the 4 "players" have played through the first ball, the scoring gets screwed up and random reels begin to spin, sometimes player 1 and 2 both start spinning (not in harmony though, just randomly)
I'm guessing that either the player unit (if that is what that thing is) or the bank of relays next to the score reels (which also has a tiny stepper unit, the match unit?) has something to do with all of this. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this? I've been googling the hell out of this so any help would be amazing. Thanks for anything you can offer!
