I am repairing a System 7 pinball. It is a Firepower 2. I originally thought it had bad roms because it gave the code for bad IC17 when I bought it. So, I bought some online and put them in. Still have intermittent problems.
So, I installed the last Leons Test Rom and replaced the interconnect.
-I found that all PIAs are acting perfect now during Leons Test.
-When I press the diagnostic button, it flashes "1,2,3" and then goes back to flashing 0. I assume normal?
Here is the problem. I have all of the Firepower 2 chips in the board when testing, except IC17, where Leons ROM sits. Everything passes. When I place the Firepower 2 IC17 in and power on, I get a solid 0 that doesnt go away. I am not sure why Leons indicates everything is testing fine, and then when I place the final Firepower 2 chip in, it fails to boot.
Also, when I press the diagnostic button with the test ROM in, it flashes "1,2,3" and then back to 0s, like I said above. I assumed this was normal. However, when I remove the 5101 RAM, I get the same results. I find this odd, since the diagnostic button is supposed to test the 5101 and I am getting the same results with or without the RAM installed.
Any ideas?
