Most of you know me, this is for the few that don't and browse my site. I just wanted to say if you go to my site and find weirdness - I know about it and am working on it. We weren't hit with an attack (that I know of). This seems to be something installed that broke something else. Right now we have decreased functionality to try to isolate the issue. I just don't want anyone to get discouraged from checking things out in this diminished state. It's entirely possible we may have to start over (VERY last resort). We even have the people at Simple Machines stumped. When the guy in charge of the software comes over and says "I have never seen that before..." . It can never be good.

This might be a pain in the ass, but W3C is the home of the Internet and its language standards for scripting webpages, and their Validator page will check a website for errors, however, the Validator is STRICT and will list Every Single Error, even if the HTML syntax otherwise works. I have seen working webpages analyzed by the Validator pull up over 700 errors, so be aware should you try it:

So far, the Validator indicates only One Error on the forums front page; an errant & (Ampersand) which the validator states should be replaced with the Escape Character for an Ampersand &.
The message will give you the Escape Character when you check it, but that may not be the only problem with some features turned off and their JavaScript files not accessible for analysis.

You can also try using Internet Explorer and watching for any page errors which will be indicated on the lower left corner of the browser. If you use JavaScript, you can also try checking the site using the JavaScript Console that is found in Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, and most modern browsers. The JavaScript Console is usually found in the browser under Tools.

Sleepy, I forgot to say thank you. I passed this along to Pintrepid- my go to guy. We're getting dozens of errors with each page load. The guy from SMF is coming over this weekend, hopefully he can pull a rabbit out of his.....

The thing is, one error in the code for generating the pages can repeat endlessly, every time that snippet is executed, so take a look at the errors to make sure that it isn't the same error over and over.
If it is, then it only needs one fix in the PHP or Simple Machines code to cure it.
One typo can wreck an entire site.

everything seems okay posts go up as they should
and the forums acted normal

The forum is ok, but you can't click on a profile to send a pm, along with some other workability issues. Things in the admin panel, I can't even access (and it's not a permissions issue either).

You mean the black/white? What about a bit of grey? I may do some changes to that.

just drop some of the default and basic color templates in to your options. they must have been included with your setup, or maybe they make you go to their master site and download them or something.

Actually we're using a custom theme (3 column). I think there's an option for each member to use the default theme too, but not for quests.

Hey, Ike,

Yes, I can understand, white on dark is not for everyone. You are also correct that it can be set so that you can choose your own theme instead of the Dark Classic like we have as default.

Please give us a little while. We're still fixing some basic forum functions, and are taking precautions to ensure the site doesn't crash again like it did.

But I'll definitely look into setting it up so that you can view the site in the default black-on-white background SMF Theme for your optional use.

UPDATE:

For all Rogue visitors:

If you'd like to change the Theme you're using to view the site, you can do so by changing your Profile:

1. Go to your Profile page.

2. Click on the Modify Profile button. A drop down menu will appear.

3. Choose the Look And Layout page.

4. At the top of the Look and Layout Page, you can choose a different Theme for viewing the site. Select your theme from the list and then click on the Change Profile button at the bottom of the page.
