Hey Bill. Is this an old song? If so, can you name it?
I know it resembles Cannon in D Major by John Pachelbel a bit, but is there modern recording that follows this pattern?
EDIT: And my sequencer insists on using that synth voice instead of a second guitar near the end. Sheesh.

LOL! This is kinda like playing Name That Tune! I named that tune in 6 notes!

Aww...no Bill. Can't be that one. Not at all. The time signature is the same, but definitely not the same tune.

It does have the same seg, but that's a standard seg, and it's an anomaly in "Color My World" given the otherwise unique melodic structure of that tune.

Well... once you get into the melody of the song, it's definitely different. But it would be impossible to hear that intro and not think of someone's prom date in a mid-70s high school gymnasium.

More than that, just try playing your song and the Chicago one at the same time. I think you'll find, just as I did, that it sounds exactly like... about four cats jumping up and down on piano keys. It's a weird sound!

When Rolling Stone published its 25th anniversary issue they included select letters to the editor that they got over the years. One that still sticks with me is one from some sort of college professor who claimed that, by some distant date from when the letter was written in the early '70s (but one that has long passed us by.. like sometime in the mid-80s) it would be impossible to write a new song, since every possible way of stringing notes together to make a melody would have been used up by then. Batshit crazy? Probably. But his hypothesis has stuck with me for the last 30 years. That's probably why I hear just a soupcon of Skeeter Davis in that song, as well. And might I say, about the following performance, it's pretty bad.

But my "Skeeter mimic" stops at the "Don't they know" line.
I'm still a Free Man so far!

He's rounded First Base and headed for Second..."

...her song was from '65? It's a variant of "I Want to Hold Your Hand".
Isn't it? Her 4th chord in the verse line is a D minor, while the former "Hand" is a D Major.
EDIT: If played in the same key as Skeeter's song.

Btw, the first three verse chords of "Don't Stop Believing" are the same pattern, while the first 4 verse chords of "Just What I Needed" are the same pattern as "Hand".

LOL! Yeah... maybe four notes from Skeeter... and you really have to be listening for Skeeter to pick it up! I can kind of pick up on the Beatles thing... the rest of it, I don't think I'm musically smart enough to pick up on!

The notes are not as important as the chord pattern. With the same chord pattern you could hum anything over it that fits and visa-versa, but if it comes to a copyright argument, it's the chord pattern that counts.

Like the chord pattern for the verse line of "Good Vibrations" and "Greensleeves". Or "Happy Together" and "Greensleeves".

Wonder why Mike Love didn't go after The Turtles? That's shwei...
