Gottlieb Genesis (Gottlieb, 1986) Gottlieb System 80B Screw Up

Hello,
I accidentally replaced a system 80b power cord with a system 80. The 80b goes from the A2J2 Power Board connection to three different boards (A1J1 Control Board, A4 Display board and A6 Sound board) The system 80 cable goes straight from A2J2 Power to A1J1 Control. After connecting the wrong wire the game lights up but doesn't boot. I checks the fuses and nothing looks blown, any ideas where to look next (Did I blow the control board maybe?)

No real original problems, this is 100% stupidity. My Genesis had the usual Gottlieb ground issues (after play for several hours it may reset etc) and the left ramp light wasn't working but nothing that kept it from playing a normal game. I bought a bunch of replacement cables from Docent Electronics maybe 4 years back and installed the pre-made ones except for the Power. I decided to try and find the cause of the left lamp light issue last month and when going through my stock I found the power cable. I forgot the reason I never installed the cable is because it wasn't for a 80b. The connectors are the same at both ends so it fit. Once I put it on it just lights now and doesn't boot (usually makes booting beep, lights flash and the robot under the playfield goes through a normal loop). Lights go on and nothing else

I guess you tried putting the old cable back in service?

Yes, I plugged in the new and when I saw it didn't boot quickly took it off (realized it was an improper cable)and reconnected the correct "old" one. Now even with the correct cable it boots the same as when I put the wrong one on.

that sounds like a major d'oh. sorry i had to get that in. good gotlieb info is hard to find. i have a gottlieb star series 80 manual , but it doesnt have a lot on 80B. i found that pinwiki has some of the best free 80B info out there. the 80B 5 volt power supply might be at fault. with the machine turned off , remove the 5 volt output connector , turn machine back on and test the 5 volt output with a DMM. a non within spec 5 volt reading is a problem. turn machine off and dis-connect and remove power supply. check for burnt traces, burnt parts, and cracked solder connections. use DMM to check for open or shorted parts. im not sure of the correct readings of the regulator. schematic for power supply is not shown. if you have your game manual it might have it listed. pinwiki says that the 5 volt adjustment pot does go bad over time and should be replaced. this is a smart thing to do because the power supply does not have any over-voltage protection. if the voltage is corrected or within specs the parts near the 5 volt input of the cpu should be checked before plugging the 5 volt connector back on to the cpu. because if a cpu problem isnt corrected it might take out the power supply again.

I played around with it a little more last night. At first the displays wouldn't go on. After moving the connectors a bit it lights again but I get a Game Prom 2 Missing error.
