Williams Gorgar (Williams, 1979) Anyone a Gottlieb expert?

I have a Gorgar that talks funny. the music is ok, but when it talks it sounds slured. I checked the speaker and amp and power supply, they are fine. it has to be the board or the program chips. someone told me since this was way before wav or mp3, that the speech is sent to a processor as streaming text. which the unit plays. but that is hard to believe. cause how do they accually make the charactors voice. any ideas?

Gorgar always to me sounded muffled like he is drunk
I think because it was the first 'talkie' pin maybe the
quality ain't all it should be and no they aren't wav or mp3's
but rather coded into the chips

hmm williams, I thought it was a gottlieb or a bally. also, where is the best place to buy pins in or near las vegas? I found a scared stiff in a billard place but they want over 7 grand for it. if I had that kind of cash I would just buy some new machines at a dealer.

Gorgar is a Williams system 3. A Cheap possible solution would be to replace all of the electrolitic capacitors on the sound board. I have been working on some Bally Sqwuak and Talk boards and usually when the start sounding garbled or slurred it is because the 30 + year old capacitors are starting to dry up. They act as a filter. Just make sure you get them in the correct direction. I you reverse the polarity, you will have exploding capacitors. Pay close attention to the markings in the cap.

ah, not as much fun to fix as a bally system 1,
or whatever they called the first system series.
I fixed a lot of these when I was a pin tech many years ago.
sometimes when I go to the pinball place out here I just like to watch and listen. the old EMs made a certain sound when they worked, and another when they didnt. Ilearned the fix those by working at united coin and going thru thier tech school.
then I went to the bally school to learn other stuff. fun days.

Check with that guy over at the "pinball Hall of Fame" in Vegas. If anyone knows where to find them, he would.

You mean the Bally -35 boards. I have 18 machines that I am currently reworking for a guy here in town that are in various states of disrepair. I have everything from a Stern Memory Lane to Eight Ball Deluxe.

dont remember the system names much.
I do remember thou that a lot of them had custom chips made for them. I had a revenge from mars once. WMS pinball 2000, I think.
dead prizm board. was going to switch it to a nucore system but someone made me a offer I couldnt refuse. 2500.00 for it as was/is.
now I just want to get one new machine soon. like the wizrd of oz special, but dont really want to fork out 8gs for one much. might just watch for something I like and grab that. almost bought a big buck world, but after playing it for hours in a bar just couldnt see paying 5 grand for something I was already bored with.
hmm, maybe a fright fear land instead...
