Williams Solved Grand Prix (Williams, 1976) plays 4 when 3 player is chosen

Hello, I am new to owning pins and new to this forum. As a kid, I thought I would be doing okay if I owned a pinball. After I ended up doing okay, I did not have the time to do it. Now, I still don't have the time, but realized I'm not getting any younger so I bought a Flash and a Grand Prix.

The Grand Prix plays fine on 1, 2 and 4 player. When a 3 player game is selected, the 3 person light shows up correctly, but after the 3rd person plays his ball, it lights up the scoring reels and you have to play the 4th person to get back to the 1st person's turn. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In the head of the machine is the player stepper unit. It is a
swiper board that has 4 fingers. It rotates clockwise
to advace to the next player. Check that unit as they are often
"sticky" and do not rotate cleanly. In essence it rotates from
position 1 to postion 2 for player 2 and so on. (c/p)

It probably needs adjustment/ cleaning. If it had no power going to it, it would still work, but play on the number of players it sits on.
