Help getting it working

Hi all

Im new to this and am having problems getting it to work, have installed the Visual pinball using the program on the main page. I get it to run but when i run a table nothing really happens, i see the table but it doesnt start.... am i missing something or?

For most tables, Press the top 5 key on the keyboard for credits and the 1 key to start the game. Don't use the NUMPAD 5 and 1 keys. They won't work.
Some tables start by pressing the 's' key, others by pressing the 2 key.

If you download a VPinMame table, you need to download two files (1) the .vpt table file. Unzip it to the Tables folder, and (2) the specific PinMame ROM file for the table. Download it to the vpinmame\Roms folder and KEEP IT ZIPPED.
Not all tables are VPinMame tables. Most Visual Pinball-Only tables use no additional files, though a few do, like additional .mp3 files that go to the Music folder. Only VPinMame tables use the PinMame ROMS. These are recreations of actual machines using the same software (the ROM from the machine) to recreate the game behavior, sounds and videos in the DMD.

You will know that you are trying to play a VPinMame table because when you start a VPinMame table by clicking the Play arrow button in the Visual Pinball editor, you will either see the VPinMame Splash Screen with the name of the table at the bottom, or you will receive an error when things are not right yet, like VPinMame cannot find the ROM.zip file in the Roms folder (when the correct file is not there).

If you are starting a VPinMame table for the first time and in the DMD (the ScoreBoard mini-screen in the upper Left corner of the Screen) you see the FACTORY SETTINGS RESTORED message, then press the top 7 key and wait a moment for the table to reset to Play Mode.
If nothing happens after a few moments, then press the F3 key to reset to Play Mode. This is because different machines have different routines the first time they are turned on, and VPinMame recreates this behavior.
After it resets in a blink or within 30 seconds, you will see a score in the DMD, then press the 5 and 1 keys to start the game.

Still not getting anything to work, its like its just showing a jpg picture when i start the game, also on some boards it says unable to open wpc.vbs, ensure it is in the same folder as the table, and the file actually is there, so dunno why that is coming...

Any clue why it just is showing the gameboard and not allowing me to start or play it?

On Vista/Windows 7 try Right-Clicking on the VPinball.exe or Shortcut > choose Run as... > Administrator.
Choose the checkbox "for all users" to keep it easy, else you'll need to boot Windows as Administrator to run it. Usually the "Current User" setting is sufficient. Again, I'm not sure how Vista/7 states these controls. I'm going by XP > Run as... Current User, and I apologize for missing this point because I'm still running XP.

On XP 64 systems, you might also need to Right-Click the VPinball.exe or Shortcut > choose Properties > Compatibility Tab and set it to Windows 2000 or Windows 98.

works a little better, now the flippers etc work, but no firing of the ball hehe, or no ball at all

Seriously?
Just in case, it's the ENTER key for the Plunger.

And if you are playing an old school EM, Gottlieb, Bally, etc. from the 1940's-60's that used manual ball delivery, you might need to release a ball to the Plunger lane by pushing either the 'a' key, or the 'L' key or whichever key the author chose to program for the ball release. Good luck.

Got it all to work now, had to throw it into compa mode and run as admin, thanks alot for the help

you must run as admin if you are using either vista or win7 you should have mentioned that first, but hey, at least ya' got it solved, and welcome to the site!
