<o:smarttagtype namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com<img src=" http:="" www.pinballnirvana.com="" forums="" images="" smilies="" icon_surprised.gif="" border="0" alt="" title="Surprised" smilieid="2" class="inlineimg"></o:smarttagtype> This will seem like an odd request, but I want all my games to be single coin to play - specifically, I am used to Arcade Mame, so I want all the game to be 5 (which I think would be the right coin slot) to Add Coin and 1 to Start.
<o></o>
(Partly for consistency with Arcade Mame, partly b/c when I last played real pinball, the games actually were 1 play for a quarter).
<o></o>
Anyway, I have about 30 games set up this way. Even some of the newer ones work fine - for example, Medievel Madness is a 1997 game and I just went into pricing and set Price “4/$1” and Coin Box “25-25-25” and it works fine.
<o></o>
The Flintstones and Indiana Jones are 1994 games and I need to see if the manual helps any, but so far I can’t get it to work. Here is what I have tried:
<o></o>

  • Game Pricing 01 - <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1>USA</st1></st1:country-region> 3/$1.00 ($0.33 per game) - Coin Door Type 10 - 0.33 Token - Says Credit 1/3 when I insert a coin.
  • Game Pricing 01 - <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1>USA</st1></st1:country-region> 6/$2.00 (Shouldn’t this be the same thing) - Same as above.
  • Game Pricing 01 - <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1>USA</st1></st1:country-region> 1/$0.75 - Coin Door Type 10 - Custom - All Slots set to 0.75. Same as above.
  • Game Pricing 01 - <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1>USA</st1></st1:country-region> 1/$1.00 - Coin Door Type 10 - 0.25-$100 - Dollar Bill Slot 22 - Right (should be the 5-Key, correct) Says Credit ¼ when I insert a coin.
  • Game Pricing 01 - USA 1/$1.00 - Coin Door Type 10 - Custom - Right Coin Slot 1.00 - Dollar Bill Slot 22 - Right (should be the 5-Key, correct) Says Credit ¼ when I insert a coin.
  • 1-Coin Buy-In 19 - Yes (not sure what this is supposed to do, but it didn’t work.
Tried a few more things with no luck - Price 1/$1.00, Base Coin Value =4 gives Credit ¼ per coin drop, Custom Coin Door with each slot $4.00 gives Credit ¼ per coin drop …

<o></o>I also tried the fs_lx5, fs_sp2, and fs_lx2 Roms with the same results.
<o></o>
I tested with Flintstones and then found out Indiana Jones had the same problem.
<o></o>
Johnny Mnemonic seemed like it would have a problem also (no 4/$1.00 setting), but I set it to Game Pricing Japan and Coin Door 100 Yen and it works fine.
<o></o>
I tried setting Indiana Jones to Game Pricing Canada 1 and Coin Door Type <st1:country-region w:st="on">Australia</st1:country-region> and got 3 credits per coin, and <st1:country-region w:st="on">Canada</st1:country-region> 2 and <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1></st1></st1:country-region> and got 2 credits per coin - there was no Canada Coin Door Type.

Looking at the manual - it looks like Italy1 might do what I want - 500L per coin chute, 500L per game. I don't remember seeing Italy1 for the Game Pricing, but maybe if I set the Coin Door Type to that it over-rides the pricing - I'll test that tonight.

<o></o>
Not sure why this one is such a problem …

In the mean time, if anyone knows a solution.

Also - unrelated, but on the Bally/Williams games 8 and 9 with the coin door open raises the volume. Is there an equivalent for Data East/Stern/Sega/Gotlieb? (I some a Music Volume 0-14 setting on some tables but not most of them)?

Thanks!!!

<o></o>
Game ROM 1 (Domestic) 27c040 U6 CPU A-5343-50029-1A
Game ROM 1 (Foreign) 27c040 U6 CPU A-5343-50029-1X
<o></o>
That explains why the only pricing options available are <st1:country-region w:st="on">USA</st1:country-region> and <st1:country-region w:st="on">Canada</st1:country-region> (Custom Pricing is not a selectable option - which probably hurts), and it means that while <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1>"Italy</st1>"</st1:country-region> 1 would work great, until someone dumps that Romset for VpinMAME, I can’t use it.
<o></o>
This should be easy to fix, but I can’t seem to get it working.
<o></o>
From trial-and-error, I got fairly close -
<o></o>
If I select Game Pricing USA 2/$1.00, Coin Door 25-$1-25, the 3 button and 5 buttons give ½ credit and the 4 and 6 buttons give 2 credits - which sorta makes sense, and I only have to press 5 twice to start the game, which is better than 3 or 4 times.
<o></o>
By this logic, if I select Game Pricing USA 1/$1.00, I should be able to get 1 credit with the 4 and 6 keys and if nobody has a better suggestion, I could use AutoHotKey to remap 5 to 4, start the table, remap 4 back to 4 on exit, and exit itself, and then save this as an .exe and launch it from VP-Man. BUT … with those settings, the 3,5,and 6 keys all give ½-credit, and the 4 key does not do anything.
<o></o>
Had another idea and it works about 75% of the time (I’m sure it’s a timing thing that could be fixed), but it’s way more trouble than it’s worth …
<o></o>
If I build an AHK script to send both 3 and 5 when the 5 key is depressed, I should get one credit per 5 press. Then the AHK script would launch the table, and exit when the table was done (or I could use BatchRun to load the AHK script, load the table, and then quit AHK.) Then, I have to move my table out of the tables folder so VP-MAN doesn’t automatically find it, and create a VP-Man entry to launch the .exe file and associate all the art and rulesheets with it.

I'm really thinking this is an error with VP-Mame rather than the table or settings, since if I select 2/$1.00 and custom coinbox and each slot as 0.50, it still registers 1/2-credit for 3 and 5, and 2 credits for 4 and 6 - also the Indiana Jones manual lists 4/$1.00 as a selectable option in the Owner's Manual but VPM doesn't offer it.

Thanks in advance for more help, though!!!

<o></o>
I ran into the same problem with Judge Dredd, but this was a PacDude table, so I remembered F6 had Dip Switch settings so I set it to European and pricing to <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1>ITALY</st1></st1:country-region> 1 and it worked fine. Indiana Jones had the same settings, so it is working now.
<o></o>
I looked in the script for Judge Dredd and it looks like the line for European dip switches is:
Code:
Controller.DIP(0)=&Hd0
<o></o>
However, I set this option in The Flintstones table script (by JPG-Pins) and the table launched but none of the available options changed, so either it is a different dip switch or position for this game, or I need a European ROM to change the setting.

custom should work or you can just set it to free play

Custom SHOULD work - but in the Flintstones there is no custom pricing option and I tried everything I could think of with custom coin door and nothing seemed to have an effect. It almost seems like VPM is ignoring any setting and keeping a 25-$1-25 coin door regardless of what you set in the pricing options.

Free play would work - but I don't know that I'd remember it (it probably announces it) - It's just a virtual quarter, but I remember one coin to play and that's what I want. I'd be happier with 1/2 credit and two coins to play like I have now - if that's what I'm stuck with (and it looks like it is!!!)

Thanks for the suggestion, though!!!

Okay, well I found the problem, but not a solution yet ...

From this page (and others):

Version L-5
Date: November 29, 1994
U6: Checksum: FA05 (A - USA/Canada)
Checksum: FD05 (X - Export)

The export version supersedes all A ROMs.

Changes from revision L-4:

Capped the maximum that the jackpot value could grow to.

NOTE: To use Custom Pricing on this game, you must set the
dipswitches on the CPU board to Export (1-5 off, 6 on, 7 off, 8 on)

Version L-4
Date: September 8, 1994
U6: Checksum: 7F04 (A - USA/Canada)
Checksum: 8404 (X - Export)

Q1: Is there any way in VP or VPM to set the CPU board dips to 1-5 off, 6-on, 7-off, 8-on? (There is no F6 menu setting to do so!!!)
Q2: If not, I assume the main ROM is flin_lx5.rom. Is there anyway to tell if it is checksum FA05 or FD05 and if it is FA05, is there an easy way to change it to the FD one or replace it?

From the wording of the note, it sounds like the Domestic ROM will work if I can change the DIP switch settings somehow.

If nobody knows, I'll try the following and report back, but I'm somewhat doubtful:
Code:
With Controller.
DIP(0)=0
DIP(1)=0
DIP(2)=0
DIP(3)=0
DIP(4)=0
DIP(5)=0
DIP(6)=1
DIP(7)=0
DIP(8)=1

Thanks in advance!!!

Found a possible workaround for The Flinstones and I need the same fix for another game.
<o></o>
First: Lap By Lap. Dip Switch Settings are:
<o></o>

  • 1Coin 1 Credit, and 1 Coin 4 credits
  • 2 Coins 1 Credit (4 Coins 3 credits and 1Coin 3 Credits)
<o></o>
Option 1 - Key 3 gives 1 credit, Key 4 and 5 give 4 credits.
Option 2 - Key 3 gives 1/2 credit, Key 4 and 5 give 3 credits.
<o></o>
What I need is for Key5 to give one credit. This would work if the left coin slot was mapped to Key5 (and would be okay for all games, but if VP Preferences Keys the only option was Add Credit, and it was already mapped to 5.
<o></o>
Is there code I can change in the table script to make the 5 Key the left coin slot.
<o></o>
For the Flintstones, I was thinking a similar fix would work, 1/$1.00, 25-$1-25 coin slot, map center coin slot to “5”, but that doesn’t work.
<o></o>
However:
<o></o>
If I open the coin door (End Key) and then press 7, the game inserts a credit and then plays normally and at the end of play 7 inserts another credit. You see the “Coin Interlock Button Open” message when you first start the table, but never again.
<o></o>
Is there code I can add to the script to have the coin door open and remap “7” Option Escape to “5”?
<o></o>
If so, that should work for me!!!

I got Lap By Lap fixed. Edited VPMKeys.vbs in the tables folder and now 5 is my right coin slot, 4 is center, and 3 is right. Non-Intuitive, but it works much better for what I want.

<o></o>
Peter recommended deleting the subroutine at the end of the script called “Options Menu Variables†would fix it, but that was the problem, but if you just delete or comment it out, you get an error b/c the sub is still called.
<o></o>
What you need to comment out is this line near the end of the script:
<o></o>
'Set vpmShowDips = GetRef("TableMenu")
<o></o>
(Actually, looking at the script more carefully, this line is part of the subroutine, so commenting out the subroutine removes it also, but just commenting this line works also.
<o></o>
Now when you start the table, you can press F6 and the DIP Switch menu will come up and you can select European for the<st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1> ROM.</st1></st1:country-region>
<o></o>
Then close and reopen the table and press F3 to reset the ROM since the DIP switches changed. Then press END to open the coin door, 8 or 9 to get to “A. Adjustmentsâ€, 0 to select Adjustments, 8 or 9 to get to “A3. Pricingâ€, 0 to select pricing, and the easiest thing is to select Italy1 which is 1 Coin/Play and automatically changes the coin door to 500 Lire, so all works fine.
<o></o>
(Unfortunately, when you change DIP Switch positions, it resets all other items like Balls/Game, so you have to reset those, but it works great!!!)

I contacted JP about this and he said this will eliminate the menu to disable the fading lights from showing up. I'm not sure if you run the table and eliminate the fading lights via the orignal menu if the settings are retained or not - probably).

nice post I have been looking for an answer to this for some time now, as I too could not select A3 Pricing option and set it for custom, this has been a real pain in the ass for me because I want centre coin to be 1 coin 3 credits and right coin to be 1 coin 1 play, still working on it but at least this gives me something to work on, any help would be great

the hell kind of post is this? I can't read that top part at all! well my pins are safe from you then, since mine don't even use a coin to start, just hit '1'. why have a 'coin' anyways? it's a virtual machine why go thru the trouble of setting it up to 'accept coins'? While it may add realism it only aggravates me when I must smack a few more buttons trying to figure out which ones start whose table. at times it's '5' then '1' sometimes it's just '1' (like mine) a few just use the 'enter' key (usually flipperless but not always)same as 'winning' a free game; why? it's all free anyways...but to each their own I guess...

Sorry Faralos - I didn't notice it did that ....

If you copy and paste from Word, sometimes it does weird things. On other forums, there is an HTML button where you can edit that out, but I don't see one on here.

Perhaps a mod can fix it - otherwise the general substance is still readable.

To answer your question:

  • I'm old enough to have played some of these tables and some MAME arcade games when they were actually 25c/game.
  • MAME (at least for me) is looking for "5" to insert coin, and I am used to that, so I want VP to be the same (if I don't set all the tables to free play, I would end up pressing "5" when I didn't need to and wondering why the table didn't add a credit or wondering why 1 didn't work when I hadn't pressed "5".)
  • It's a virtual credit, but it's still a credit - Personal peeve, but I remember when it was a challenge to get a high score on one quarter b/c if you didn't sooner or later you spent $10 trying. With MAME, that's not a big deal, and the worst thing (IMHO) is MAME on free play with unlimited continues - sure you can beat the game, but you couldn't/wouldn't in real life in the arcade. In VP, I try to play only one credit and see how I do and decide if I want to play another 'Virtual' credit.
  • I know I mixed VP and Arcade MAME together - but they somewhat blend for me anyway - most of the pinball machines I saw where in arcades, or the arcade cabs and pins were in pizza parlors, etc.

well I am also old enough to 'remember' way back when too, as I'm 50! hell I remember a dime for 5 balls on some in the 60's! as well as playing many flipperless pins in bars in the early 70's. too. I just hate trying to code the 'hit 5 then 1' stuff into a pin, that's just me though as it seems the general consensus here seems to like that simulation of a real pin. I know the rom pack pins all use it so maybe the table authors are stuck with it anyways due to that. same with beating the game and winning a 'free' one. I just have a high score posting for the tables I build. so in essence all you can do is best your own high score, (or mine since I always put my score and name in there for something to beat) like I said though earlier, to each his/ her own...
