Hi everyone,

New to this. Yes, I read the article in Maximum PC and thought it would be way cool to spend some time once again on those tables where I dropped tons on quarters. I'm really looking forward to getting this up and running. But I'm having some problems.

I can't seem to get past the WPC.VBS required error message. And yes, I've downloaded and re-downloaded all of the files, specifically including the vpvbs3-27.zip file. . . several times. And yes, I did a complete uninstall and reinstall with the new intaller package.

I've also tried this on several different tables. Same thing. VP always hangs on the "unable to open WPC.VBS. Ensure that it is in the same folder as this table." And yes, the files are in the same folder.

I'm running a Core Duo 6600 2.4 with 2GB RAM and a Geforce 7950 GTX with Vista SP1.

Any help or suggestions would be sincerely appreciated!!! Looking very much forward to getting this up and running.

Solution
To fix .VBS problems with Vista; make VPinball.exe compatible with Windows XP

To fix this problem under Vista, go to your VPinball.exe and make it compatible for Windows XP by going into the properties drop down.
Reinstall VP and VPinMAME logged in as administrator. Right click on the VP executable and set compatibility mode for either Win NT 4 or '95. Welcome to the joys of "We Don't Trust Our Lawful Customers" Vista!

Valamir,

Thank you so much for trying to help me!!!! Tried everything you said. Used compatability for both NT 4 and Win 95. Same results. Tried different tables, same thing. Could it be something in the pinball software that is not setup right? I downloaded several VPM tables, Star Trek, Theater of Magic, STNG, Twighlight Zone, and unzipped the files to the "Tables" folder. Is there some kind of ROM file(s) that needs to go with this? Again, I used the installer package. . . redownloaded and reinstalled twice. I also redownloaded and reinstalled the vbs zip file.

Very frustrating (spent two complete evenings last weekend on this), but I absolutely cannot wait to get this up and running. Some of the tables look incredible! Please, any more suggestions/help will be sincerely appreciated!!!!! Thank you again for any help that you can provide!!

:welcome1:pbpunk!

The WPC.VBS file that was inside the .zip file needs to be extracted into your tables folder.

There are rom files that are required for every VPM Tables that you download, I'm not sure if that's your problem but rom zip files are required for the tables that you mentioned, i would try to download a non VPM Table and see if that works, try IRPinball for non-VPM Visual Pinball Tables.
Try Elvis from here and download the table, extract into your tables folder, download the rom zip file (leave intact) and place the zip into your roms folder.

If one of the Tables work you probably need the roms, see this post, the rom .zip files that you download must remain unzipped and placed into your roms folder.

Hope that helps!

Just FYI, the Visual Install Pack already includes the latest VB-Scripts (plus some that are not included in the standalone package), so there is no need to get them separately. In fact the VIP already includes everything and the latest versions of everything, (see release thread for the complete list of features), so if the tables do not work then it is not due to missing or outdated files, that much can be safely said.

As for what the problem might be, im afraid i have to tell you the same as i just told somebody at VPForums; namely since im not using Vista myself im afraid i cant be of too much help here. When i installed the VIP on Vista Ultimate for testing purposes a couple of times it worked right away each time, but then that was on a fresh system in default condition and with the UAC disabled, and this is also where my experience with Vista ends.

But, since the UAC is responsible for all that permissions crap, perhaps you could try it that way too. (If only to rule that out as the cause - It worked for me too.) So what you could try now is this:

Uninstall everything you installed so far and if necessary delete all remainders. (Except Table- and ROM files, put them at a safe place.) Then go to the User Accounts Setup, disable the UAC, reboot the PC, and then reinstall the Visual Install Pack. (Make sure to do the VPM installation too when the window pops up.) After that put only the .vpt file ( = the table file contained in the table ZIP) in the 'Tables' folder and the corresponding ROM (the zipped ZIP file) in the 'ROMs' folder. If done right you should now be able to start the table either by doubleclicking the .vpt table file or by opening the table file via the VP Editor (which can be started with the shortcut on your desktop) and pressing the 'Play' button.

Let me know if that worked or not because i would like to know this myself,...

Phoenix and Jon,

THANK YOU for the suggestions. Yes, the VBS file has been extracted into the tables folder. . . several times.

I am using Vista Ultimate SP1. . . and I did a clean install of this OS just a couple of weeks ago. Yes, UAC was activated during the VIP install and asked for my permission a couple of times. I will try to disable this and do a complete reinstall. I'm very interested to see if this works as well. . . heck, I still can't wait to tackle some of these tables. . . I can almost hear them calling to me. . . just like back in the day!

This may take me a couple of day. . . work is piling up right now. But I will definately get back to you and let you know what happened. In the meantime, if there's anything else you can think of. . . PLEASE send you suggestions my way. You help is sincerely appreciated. Again, thank you all for you great suggestions!

Does this work? Open/start VP (Editor), then chose file/new, then click the play button. Use standard controls to play or change them in preferences/keys.

Just wanted to let you know after looking for the answer to this problem for 40 minutes, this is what worked. Big thanks!

I have same problem under XP sp3.
What can I do?

Following the above advice:

Download and unzip the (VPinMAME Support Files) Visual PinMame .vbs files to the Visual Pinball\Tables folder or download and install the Visual Install Pack program suggested by Phoenixx. The VIP program already has the necessary .vbs files in the \Tables folder when you install it.

http://www.pinballnirvana.com/UpDownload-req-viewsdownload-sid-33.html

Right-Click on the Visual Pinball.exe (not the Installer. Click the installed VisualPinball.exe) or on its Shortcut on the Desktop or from the Start menu and then choose "Run as.." > Administrator or choose a User with Administrator privileges.

Make sure to have a NameOfTable.VPT file UNZIPPED to the Tables folder and, if you are playing a VPinMAME recreation, a ROM.zip for the specific table in the VPinMAME\Roms folder. Keep the Rom.zip ZIPPED.
If you do not see a Roms folder on your system, then you need to either:

(1)Make a New Folder inside of the (usually) C:\Program Files\Visual Pinball folder. Rename it to vpinmame, then Download and UNZIP Visual PinMAME to this folder and click the Setup.exe that appears there to install, then put the ROM.zip in the Roms folder that appears there after install, or

(2) Download the Visual Install Pack. Install it, then put the ROM.zip in the Pinball\Roms folder. Make sure to download the ROM.zip that goes with the table.vpt. These are usually grouped together, or find the pinball machine and download the Pinmame ROM for it here:

www.ipdb.org

If you are trying to play a Bally or Gottlieb machine from the 1980s, then refer to the download page for VPinMAME and download and unzip the Bally 6803 NVRAM and the GTS3 NVRAM files to the vpinmame\nvram folder (or if using the VIP install: the Pinball NVRAM folder).

Feel free to ask for help.
