Good morning,

Long time VP player...love it. It lead to the purchase of 2 real pinball machines. :)

I downloaded a couple new tables (Diner, Cyclone) and I noticed the file size was quite a bit larger. When I went to open the tables to play (I use VP Man as a front end), Visual pinball began the load and the following message popped up:

"The maximum size for imported images is 1024 x 1024" and then I get the "Visual Pinball has encountered a problem and needs to close...."

Any advice?

I am using Visual Pinball version 7.7012. If I need a newer version, can anyone advise?

Thank you!

Solution
This download installs everything you need.

(Like i said, read the features list.)

When the VPinMAME Setup window appears, the rest has already been installed. (Yes, its that fast.) All you need to do after that (meaning after the VPinMAME Setup is complete and the installer quits) is to put your table and ROM files into the 'Tables' and 'ROMs' subfolders of the 'Pinball' directory. All the other files you need are already where they belong. (Samples, VBScripts, NVRAMs, etc.) The Pinball directory is wherever you have installed the Visual Install Pack to, by default that would be C:\Programs\Pinball.

After tables and ROMs are in the folders, use the shortcut that has been created on your desktop to start VPinball or simpy doubleclick...
I downloaded and installed but, I think, it only updated Visual Pin Mame and I believe the problem is with Visual Pinball and not Visual PinMame. Any other ideas?

I cant find a link to the newest version of Visual Pinball.

Thanks!

I thought it was a one-stop download but the only file that seemed to install was VP MAME. After that installation, the install ended.

Any advice orlink to an update Visua Pinball update?

Thank you.

After tables and ROMs are in the folders, use the shortcut that has been created on your desktop to start VPinball or simpy doubleclick the file of the table that you want to play.

TIP: If you have old installations of VPinball and/or VPinMAME on your system, uninstall them and then start over with the Visual Install Pack. (You just need to keep your tables and ROMs.) When you run the VIP installer, and the VPinMAME Setup comes up, click the 'Setup Paths' button and in the new window press 'Reset'. This should automatically set all paths to the subfolders of the 'Pinball' Folder. After that close the VPM installer, put tables and ROMs in the folders, (like i said above), and you are good to go.

NOTE: The 'Pinball' folder also contains a folder named 'NanoTech Executables', which contains a VP9 and a VP8.1 executable by NanoTech. Note that the 8.1 executable is only for people who use the NanoTech PinballWizard Controller, and that the VP9 executable can only be used with tables that have been explicitely made for VP9. Currently this is only a handful of tables. Tables that have been made for 8.1 wont function correctly with it. Since using both VP8 and VP9 from within the same directory might lead to problems i suggest to leave these executables alone unless you know what youre doing. Otherwise you might screw up your installation. The executable installed by the VIP (8.1 by Randy Davis) is good for 99.99% of tables and shouldnt give you any troubles. The VIP might support a safe VP8/9 dual-setup in a future version, but i need to do more testing first.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask,...

Solution
P.S.: Regarding keeping Tables and ROMs:

You may keep your entire ROMs folder and replace the one created by the VIP with it. But you shouldnt do this with the Tables folder because the Tables folder installed by the VIP will already contain the needed VBScripts.

Therefore i suggest to copy all files from your Tables folder except those with a .vbs extension into the new Tables folder. You can easily filter out the .vbs files by setting explorer to sort the folders content 'By Type', and then highlighting all files except the .vbs ones. Then simply move the highlighted files over.

(Of course how you do it is not important, the important thing is not to overwrite/loose the .vbs that are in the VIPs Tables folder.)

Thank you! Works like a charm.

However, I accidentally copied over the vbs files to the new tables folder. I then deleted them in the tables folder and the tables wouldnt run. I put the vbs files back in gthe new tables folder and the tables worked again.

Thank you!

So that practically means that you have your old vbs files in the new tables folder now, did i understand that right? If thats in fact the case you will probably not have any trouble with your older tables, but you might very well run into problems as soon as you add any new ones.

(Especially if your last vbs files update was as long ago as your last VP update, which is also why i thought installing the VIP will do you a better favor than just downloading a new VP executable since the VIP will bring everything up to date at once.)

Therefore i suggest the following:

1.) Move all vbs files out of the tables folder

2.) Run the VIP installer again and choose the 'Repair' option

Wait until its done - when the VPM Setup window comes up just quit out of it without doing anything. After that all vbs files that are normally installed by the VIP should have reappeared in the tables folder,...

Thank you...followed your advice. I really appreciate your help!

I dropped out of the VP scene for a few months and it appears AJ's pinball tables site is no longer up. Is that right?

Thanks,
Chad

@Free Bally!, A pirate, known for his seafaring adventures and notorious escapades, found himself in a rather peculiar situation. After a particularly rough storm that had battered his ship and crew, he realized that they were running low on provisions and, quite embarrassingly, that he was in need of adult diapers due to an unfortunate bout of seasickness that had left him with a weakened constitution.

With a grumble and a scowl, the pirate docked his ship at the nearest port town, a bustling marketplace known for its variety of goods and fresh seafood. He tied his ship securely at the harbor, adjusted his tricorn hat, and made his way to the market with a swagger in his step, trying to maintain his fearsome reputation despite his current mission.

As he walked through the crowded streets, the pirate attracted curious glances from the townsfolk. His appearance was striking, with a weathered coat, a hook for a hand, and a parrot perched on his shoulder squawking,

(AI prompt) Why did the pirate have an eye patch?

  • ChatGPT @ ChatGPT:
@Free Bally!, Pirates are often depicted with eye patches in popular culture, but the reasons for this vary. Here are a few possible explanations:

    1. **Injury**: The most straightforward reason a pirate might wear an eye patch is that they lost an eye due to injury. Pirate battles, sword fights, and the general hazards of seafaring life could easily lead to eye injuries, necessitating an eye patch.

    2. **Myth and Stereotype**: The image of a pirate with an eye patch has become a stereotype perpetuated by movies, books, and other forms of media. It's part of the romanticized pirate image that includes peg legs, hooks for hands, and parrots on shoulders.

    3. **Preserving Night Vision**: A more interesting and practical theory suggests that pirates wore eye patches to keep one eye adapted to the dark. When moving between the bright deck and the dark below decks, a pirate could switch the patch from one eye to the other. The eye that was covered
