Thought I'd share this photo of me and a bloody big tree that was taken during our monster US holiday in 2005 .... :D

It is of course the General Sherman. The largest and oldest living thing on the planet and still growing at a phenominal rate!

Just realised the photo size is rather on the large size. So before posting any others can someone advise how I can make them smaller in size to upload?

I always use JPG OPtimizer, which shrinks file size with minimal loss of quality. You can download it from www.xat.com but be careful since they do have pricey versions too.

Thanks John. Initial results are promising - file size reduced to 800KB but still large. Shall experiment with some others.

Maybe I'm misreading this, but if you want to reduce the physical size of an image, at least in Paint Shop Pro, click on Image and then on Resize, and then play around with different sizes until you find one that seems suitable. Also, converting BMPs into JPG format will save a lot on file size too.

Respoded to this earlier though there's no trace of the it? Shall try and reply again.

Took over 1000+ photos on holiday, most of which were at between 6-12m Megapixels (quite large but great for prints). So what Im trying to do now is reduce the quality a little. The photo's were burnt to disk in JPG format by WalMart.

@ John - Thanks. I know I can crop using Paint Shop Pro but its the resolution that needs changing really to reduce to an acceptable size for posting where you can get the gist of the photo.

@ Jon - Thanks for the pointer to Invanview. Shall give that a try and when (if) successful shall post a few more pictures but not the complete catalogue honest!

@Shocky - Free is indeed a VERY good price! LOL

If you feel that the General photo is too large, please feel free to remove it.

IrfanView is good choice!

Try image from the menu -> resize/resample -> then file menu -> save as -> jgg -> then make quality settings.

You can also run batch mode to convert not only 1 pic, but all from a directory or what else.

Other options (i.e. color depth) available too.

Just try, but always keep your pics in original files.

May I use this for the gallery?

Yogi

Thanks for the advice on IrfanView - not had a chance to have a "go" yet because the golf from Augusta has been on and rugby this afternoon. So now it's time for Sunday dinner and not before time - I'm so hungary I could eat a cow between two bread vans! :compress:

It's a crap picture but feel free - at least those that know me won't recognise me! Hehe. :D :cyclopsani:

The sliced potato, onions, and musrooms I have baking right now will never satisfy me now after those two pictures. That top one is hard to imagine.

This IrfanView is pretty cool!

Geeze Yogi - just a snack eh!

This is where we started from. Scottsdale on a quiet day. Probably the 115f heat had something to do with it!

While this was a mixed holiday chilling out and visiting the National Parks etc, we did venture into pure US theatre. Day 2 and we toured the Diamondbacks stadium before watching the game against Marlins in the evening. This might be 'the usual' for our american friends but quite unique for us. We had a great time except the Diamondbacks lost! Well you cannot have everything.

The stadium was something else and they actually close the roof for the game and switch the air conditioning on. That's the way to do it!

Onwards and upwards ...... to Utah and Arches National Park. Here in typical holiday-maker mode (clutching camera and video) the intrepid tourist ventures through the heat to see the nature at work ....

I must find my photo's of Colorado National Monument which IMO is one of the finest to be visited/seen to date. It is an absolute gem. Hope to return again one day.

Here's one ....

Truly outstanding beauty that the camera cannot adequately capture. Using Grand Junction as a base was great at exploring this little gem.

The last photo today is a bit of a guess 'where it's shot'. This hall can seat 22,000 and is simply breathtaking - as was the singing! Not sure it's fair to let you guess, but you never know it might get you thinking. The only clue is it's not in Colorado. Otherwise ignore, 'cos I'm going for a beer . and await the return of the Augusta golf. Night night.

I don't know that hall. :)

Please post a pic I may add to the pinballpeople gallery.

Seeing as my Guess the Location fell pretty flat - I shall tell you.

The photo was taken inside the Morman Conference Centre Salt LAke City. We went along to hear the Tabernacle Choir practice - It was so incredible that even my children have asked to return there! Impressive to say the least. :)

This is another view of the choir and organ.

Went over to Tahoe. Went out on the lake and saw this balloon that appeared was going to ditch .... nice shot if I say so myself!

I've always been modest! LOL

Yosemite called and wow! What can I say. Pretty darn spectacular. Just a couple of shots where we had a picnic and the crazy little blue bird that appeared to follow us about. :)

Following which we went to Mono Lake but I can't find the photo's. So I'll give you all a break. You're lucky really, 'cos I took 6 hours of video footage also!

Goodnight all. :)
