Chicago Coin Home Run (Chicago Coin, 1972) question

Can someone tell me how to get to the bulbs in the head unit of this machine? The board doesn't seem to fold down like a pinball machine! Also I do not have a schematic yet and it starts on 1 out when a new game starts. Which relay controls the outs?

the metal bar along the bottom of the backglass says thats its a lift up & out backglass. inside the head on top are the releases. the outs are counted on a step unit and pulsed by the out relay. check unit for sticking on reset.

Dave do you know if the stepper unit is in the head or under the playfield?

the pinball database doesnt show any inside machine pics. the unit may have a sticker on it. try manually advancing units and watch outs display , once it advances you found it.

Hi Dave,
While replacing the bulbs I noticed a few more things.
1. The 4 large bulbs that light the playfield (2 in friont 2 in back) are getting very very hot. Do you know what the correct bulbs are? There are 60 watt bulbs in there now that are all different shape.
2. Should the lit bleacher signs reset when a new game is started or for player 2? They do reset after a home run.
3. I found a coil labeled out buzzer, should there be a buzz sound when an out is made? I don't remember hearing one.

the 2 front bulbs can be replaced by cfl bulbs , a 13w cfl should equal a 60w incad. and without the heat or vibration problems. can you show a pic of the other 2? the other questions the schematic pics are needed.

Hi Dave,
What does cfl mean? The back bulbs light up the bleacher section and are probably supposed to be the same as the front two bulbs. I could take pictures of the two that were in it, but they were two different bulbs. I ordered the schematics and manual, but they won't be here for another four or five days.

CFL means compact fluorescent lamp. the bulbs that have the spiral tube. the light from daylight cfl,s is close to a frosted incad. bulb.

Hi Dave,
The issue with the game starting on one out is only when in single player mode. When two players are playing the first player starts at one out, but the second player starts with no outs.

have you found the outs step unit yet? if i remember right the first player must get 3 outs before the 2nd player plays. both players outs are controlled or counted by the outs unit. the portion of the schematic posted does not show the outs unit disc or its coils.

Hi Dave,
I did find the outs stepper unit. I made an adjustment to a set of contacts that were opening to early and it solved the problem. I have the CFL lights installed and working nicely now, no more flickering or heat problem. I just need to find out whether the bleacher lights should reset for second player or not. thank you for reposting the schematics. of what i can tell each bleacher works off a indiv. latch/trip or release relay. each bleacher relay will latch in when its bleacher switch is tripped. on the 5th pic , location 16 you will see each bleacher release coil. they are all wired together , so a single pulse will trip all 3 release coils. the rest of its circuit is a score motor switch and a NO switch on the BLEACHER EXTRA RUNS RELAY , that i can not find anywhere on the schematic nor is on the coil location list. when this relay pulls in , and the score motor runs , the 3 release coils will fire. so chances are that the bleacher lights will stay on when moving from 1st to 2nd player , and will reset after all bleachers are lit or maybe a new game reset.

That is what's happening on the machine right now, it just doesn't seem fair that the second player benefits from the first player lighting the bleacher sections.
