Gottlieb Solved Hot Shots (Gottlieb, 1989) Machine not resetting

I've got a Hot Shots (Gottlieb) 80B machine that when powered up the display remains blank. In checking power to pins they all have the proper voltage. The playing board lights up but doesn't appear to reset. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Gottlieb 80b machines are known for ground problems. There is a easy ground mod for the transformer/rectifier chassis. It can be found by search gottlieb 80b ground mods. TNT amusements has a good one.

Thanks, while researching the 80B games I saw the grounding modification. I'll try that first as it's easily done.

Well, doing the grounding mod didn't fix the problem. The maintenance manual says that on power up the display will be blank, but after a 100MSEC delay all scoring displays will light and show zeros and credit display will show remaining credits. It appears that it's this point the machine doesn't get to. I put in a new Swemmer control board and the game worked fine for a while, then would reset all by itself. Wondering if this could be control board, reset board, display board itself, or some other problem.

Pinwiki recommends the 5v power supply control pot changed and it's male header pins reflowed. Also problems with the head illum. Fluorescent bulb starter. Try playing machine with the starter removed. Also pinwiki has other good 80b info about boards and mods.

Replaced the 5 volt power supply with a new one from Marco Specialties. Problem still there. Sent Swemmer control board off to be checked and repaired. Problems found with the board more than likely caused by the old faulty power supply. Put in repaired control board without the connection to the reset board and machine is now back to working great.
