We in Los Angeles are seeing EL Nino play his tricks on us, with overnight lows in the mid to high 30's F. / 1.66667 to 3.88889 C. And Bill, before you let on about finding those temps to be warm and toasty, Man, you gotta' remember that our Los Angeles homes and apartments were built Cheap for temperate to very hot climates. It's strictly drywall with zero insulation. So the cold just cuts straight through the walls at night. Like a knife.

And sales of small portable heaters are doing gangbusters. All sold out except for the most expensive or the cheapest ones that won't do the job. Everybody around here is snapping them up for their (icebox) bathrooms and distant bedrooms, to bring some creature comfort to that morning shower and shave.

So. How's the weather where you're at?

Well... 38 was the high here today! But I know from whereof you spake. Wisconsin in a heat wave is much like LA during a cold snap... which is completely unprepared. I haven't even seen an apartment with central air here. All they offer is one window unit which isn't bad during normal summers... but we don't really have "normal" seasons any more.

I had a stopover in Wisconsin one Summer. It was low 90's with, I think, 99% humidity.
All I know is, I had ten minutes to reach the airport front entrance for a smoke, and everybody outside looked like boiled red lobster. Seriously chaffed faces.
It was a steambath gone wrong.

Btw. I had a bagel there, with genuine Wisconsin cultured & salted sweet butter. That is The Best butter I've ever had.

You bet they do! And god help anyone that wants to stop them from selling it. My neighbor told me that, when he was growing up here in the '60s, his family had to go to the state line with Illinois to buy margarine. That's right... Wisconsin's dairy industry managed to keep margarine out of the state until the '70s. And that's why we'll be the last state to legalize marijuana, because the Dairy Industry ain't got nothing on the state's Beer lobbyists.

That reminds me. When I was headed for the front door because there were no smoking areas inside at the airport, the Samuel Adams Bar in the center of the airport lobby had business. Two customers. But at Pittsburgh Airport where the smoking was designated,
the T.G.I.F. was packed like smoked sardines.

I usually don't spend a lot of time at major airports, since that's where the planes grab you with their wings, stuff you into their metal gullets, drag you up to 30,000 feet and then just drop out of the sky, killing everyone on board. Happens every day.
So I was not aware that Samuel Adams had its own bar! Never really cottoned much to their beer. I did enjoy the Cherry Wheat beer they brewed many moons ago.
I don't know if this is true today but, in the late '70s, I read that more people die every year in donkey-related accidents than they do in airplane-related accidents. This comforting thought does not make me want to fly on a plane. It sure as fuck doesn't make me want to fly on a donkey.

but ruby-tuesday dude--
i could TOTALLY imagine that scenerio, duderino!

like, the donkeys... the barrels... the al key haul... the perfect muvvle-fluffin storm, yo!

Hells yeah! Throw in some peyote and Humphery Bogart and it'll be the trippiest version of The Treasure of Sierra Madre that anyone's ever seen! That was the first movie with donkeys in it that I could think of. There is Two Mules for Sister Sara but mules don't count, do they? If that is the case, then cartoon donkeys don't count, either. Sorry, Eddie. Sometimes you go home with a mule and, halfway there in the car when you get pulled over, you find out it's a donkey.

*Sleepy, thems some pretty precise stats ... Temperatures to the nearest one hundred thousandth of a degree. And I think it's funny that my home weather station bothers to show tenths ...

I have serious concerns about your water shortage. I believe El Nino may drive moisture your way along with that chill. Did California receive more rain last time this pattern developed ?
We have had a real nice fall this year in the East. Lots of Sun and warm temps. The fall trees were pretty as they can get. Little wind and rain so the color lasted through mid November. A cool grey damp trend has set in.
When the weather is acting normal I count on Winter barging in the second week of December. And I mean a rude cold blast out a Canada. That sets up a series of coastal storms as those cold fronts hit the Gulf Stream. I can't rely on that regular pattern any more. Some years the cold remains up North till second week of the new year. And that ain't bad...

LOL! Saw that sumbitch at the Crest theatre in Wichitucky, KS! That's probably the last time I thought of it! Good one, Itchy! By looking at that ImDb page, I noticed it was directed by the same guy who directed the Star Trek "Trouble with Tribbles" episode. Let me check to be sure before I'm ashamed of myself for knowing that... hey, I was wrong! Although Vinnie did direct six other episodes... I think my favorite that he directed is this one with the war between the Yangs and the Kohms... whatever could they be talking about?

Ack! You kids! You don't remember "Francis, The Talking Mule". So you probably don't even remember "Ma & Pa Kettle", let alone, "The Egg & I".

I don't like flying either, but for different reasons. On my first flight, back to Pittsburgh with family as a kid in '68, they made a point of keeping me up all night before the flight. Then they pissed in my iced lemon tea. That gave me a pepperoni face. And then they had flight crew drop the pressure in cabin to pop the ears.
They did that to keep me in place, not to wander off on my own. So I stayed at my Uncle Dudley's, feeling pretty ill, doodling on my Aunt Beatrice's piano in Ford City, PA. And then I think they ran off without me, 20 miles West, to shoot that "Living Dead" movie with George. A few of the stories claim the movie was shot in '67. Those stories are Bogus. It was the same Summer as "Back in the U.S.S.R.

But that stopover flight in '98 was something else. The in-flight movie for the return flight to Los Angeles from Pittsburgh was "Titanic". I find it hard to believe that any commercial flight ran that film at 8 miles high. But our's did.

Saw that as a kid, and remembered it. Unfortunately my mind has no DELETE button.....

How's the wither? :p

Well, at least you pronounced "weather" like an Aussie. I hate you and your 70 degrees. That's right pal... 70! Degrees! Faren-MF'en-heit! Imagine if Ray Bradbury had written Celsius 232.778. Not a very catchy title at all.

Sorry to disappoint, Grampy. My mom had a thing for Donald O'Connor so, sadly, I know far too much about Francis, the Talking Mule. As for the Kettle Klan, I like to think of them as being responsible for the decline of Western Civilization, bringing about that whole plague of hillbilly horseshit like Green Acres, Beverly Hillbillies... that thing with the pig and the hillbilly hookers... the players and coaches of the Miami Dolphins... Tex Ritter... Tex Ritter? And then I woke up.

(psst! See if you can pick out Belushi and Gilda Radner!)

PS: If I remember correctly, that's the late, great Harold Ramis who wants to hang out at the bus station, spittin' and pickin' his nose. I never understood the "Tex Ritter" thing until about 10 years ago. WARNING: Song may cause drowsiness! That's John Ritter's dad? I don't see it.

Yep, that's what I suggested at the time. But I was only 8 years old. But richie screw you folks had us shitting in an outhouse in the snow at the same time they were cashing it all in. Cooley labor. Oy! I suppose that's why they had Buddy Ebsen give me and the kids a pep talk about "staying away from Dope". And it was "Arnold the Pig". "Arnold" is also my name, with a cleft palate and a speech impediment. In Junior High, the Hollywood punks such as "Biff" of course loved to use that one on me.
This was in 1967. Biff was still in Continuation. Remedial education.

But those shows had the ratings, good or bad. I think Disney made a bio about it. Remember "The Barefoot Executive"? "Devil Dan"? "McHale's Navy"?

Why couldn't Borgnine get a part on an MTM series? He would have been excellent.
