Wow! As a former electronics technician, that was most interesting! Some of my first Atari JACG (jersey atari computer group) meetings were held once a month at the Edison Labs (Bell labs now I think) in New Jersey here in the U.S. . it was there that the first vacuum tube was invented they also mention Jack as having worked there, both as a student and later as an instructor. I remember seeing films on him going back to the late 80's (when my Atari 1040St was the most powerful home computer at the time at 1 meg!)
Wow 50 yrs. now I DO feel old...
he truly was an amazing inventor for being 'just an engineer'! What foresight to even think it up...

I remember owning my TI-99-4A computer. Way ahead of it's time. The text-to-speech programming was so easy, and I loved the extended BASIC. You could actually link an extended BASIC loader to an Assembler language program and run it in extended BASIC. When I was a member of the now defunct Sacramento 99er's User Group, we had our bulletin board, Bantoom. I was the fastest user there with a 24.4 Hayes external Smart modem. I had to run at half-duplex to read all the text. Fun days!
