is there ever a pin tourney near Philly?

Seeing all these posts concerning pin tourneys makes me wonder, I live in east Pa, in the US and was wondering if ever there will be a tournament near my home! Philly should host just such a thing if they haven't already! If anyone knows of any tourneys in or around Pa, then let me know! I really can't get to Texas or ohio (or anywhere overseas) but would LOVE one to take place here somewhere close to me!

Check out www.ifpapinball.com, they have a list of upcoming pinball tournaments, also if you do hold one in your area contact Josh Sharpe, he is the president of the IFPA, or International Flipper Pinball Association. There's the big show in Allentown every year, I've never managed to get to one, still a bit of a drive from south of Philly...

um actually I live in Pottstown, 1 hr. NW of philly. Allentown is about 30-45 minutes from me! an easy enough drive! woohoo! thanks for the info. I'll keep on the lookout for it.

i was there about five years ago and the mini-tournaments were more of a novelty than a serious proposition-- sort of like another activity to spice up the event. of course if you've never played one before then maybe that would be a good place to start.

otherwise i would think you'd want to head for the dedicated tournaments or maybe better yet, league play. just the chance to watch really skillful players doing their thing is incredibly education from reports i've heard...

hmmm I've only been playing about 40 yrs.! maybe I have a decent chance of winning at the Allentown one! Are there any cash prizes by any chance? (rubbing hands together and laughing evilly) Bwa-ha-ha-ha!

trophies, although i see P3 is now running their version of the tournament and besides the usual plaques there is this:

Side Pot
Side Pot is an entirely optional cash prize pool. The cost is an additional $20 above the entry fees. Only those participants that enter the side pot are eligible to win!

At the end of the tournament, the side pot is divided as follows: 1st place gets 50% of the side pot, 2nd place gets 30% and 3rd place gets 20%. This is the based on the rankings of side pot eligible players, regardless of overall tournament rankings.
