Malibu Beach Has Arrived For Visual Pinball!

Malibu Beach, a Bally EM Bingo Machine (Sep 80) is now ready for your playing enjoyment in Visual Pinball. This is a REALLY magnificent simulation of a classic OK MAGIC SCREEN Bingo Machine.

Malibu Beach itself was actually a re-make of a game made twenty years earlier, Laguna Beach (Feb 60). It features the OK Red-Letter Game, and a moveable MAGIC SCREEN on the Bingo Card (controlled by the player), to increase the number of credits winable. As a Single Card Bingo Machine, it allows the player to insert an unlimitted number of coins before play, to 'try' to increase the the odds and/or features. It also allows the same coin play to 'try' for Extra Balls.

Many pinball fans are not knowledgeable about these interesting, historically important machines; most have never played one. HERE IS YOUR CHANCE!

I've written very explicit instructions for gameplay, which are included in the Table Info section..

Thanks go to the author, Hung, for a unique Visual Pinball game.

Don't miss your chance to play a pinball machine with a 4-digit replay counter (!), no flippers and features that lite on a 'mystery basis'. The TILT is adjustable from very sensitive all the way to zero, changing the game from mostly luck to mostly skill: your choice.

The ease with which you can win additional Odds/Features with coin play is adjustable too.

Malibu Beach Instructions ver 1.0.03 by DocFlipr

Bally's Malibu Beach (Sep 1980) is actually a re-make of Laguna Beach (Feb 1960).

Material within "Quotes" is from original Instruction Cards.

Some additional keys are used in this Visual Pinball game as noted.

Before beginning play, set the TILT sensitivity; use the Page Up and Page Down keys. 1 is most sensitive, 9 is least sensitive. 0 which comes before one, is no TILT at all. Also set the Odds Level; use the F7 and F8 keys. 1 is the most difficult level (to lite Odds and Features), 9 is the easiest level.

5 BALLS 1 COIN

"SCORE VOID IF GAME IS TILTED"

Object: To build up credits on the 4 digit Replay Meter, located 2/3 of the way down on the left side of the backglass. Before you get paid off, remember to subtract from this number the amount of coins you inserted (shown at bottom left of the screen).

1) "FIRST Press the R(ed) Key To Deposit Coin To Start Game".
This will deliver a ball to the shooter and light the first 3 odds panels on the left of the backglass. Coins deposited are totaled on the bottom left of the screen.

You will be trying to shoot five balls into numbered holes on the playfield. They will light corresponding numbers on the backglass. Try to get 3, 4, or 5 numbers in a row.

"Shoot to light ADJOINING numbers, connected by red, yellow or green line - OR - ANY numbers in a color section.
RED, YELLOW AND GREEN SCORE SEPARATELY
Scores are indicated at bottom of backglass and match colors of lines or sections in which scoring numbers are lit.
Only highest score and only one 3-in-line per color registers"

The 3 odds panels each have 3 numbers, showing the payoff for 3, 4, or 5 in-line (going from bottom to top). Each panel is for a different color: green, yellow or red. The lowest payoffs are on the left; you would like to move the lit panels to the right.

Above the odds panels are various features which you might lite. The more lit, the better for the player.

To the left and right of the Bingo card are FEATURE PANELS; those to the right also have arrows next to them. The higher the lit panel or lit arrow, the better.

To the left of the Bingo card are panels that when lit, give special scores for hits in the orange, yellow, red and blue sections (as indicated). The higher the panel lit, the better.

2) "TO LITE ADDED FEATURES AND ADVANCE SCORES, DEPOSIT ADDITIONAL COINS"

Before you shoot the first ball, you may deposit additional coins to try to increase the odds and/or obtain better features. Each press of the R(ed) key inserts another coin, which will be totaled on the bottom left of the screen. You may (or may not) lite higher odds and/or better features. Insert as many coins (or as few) as you wish. IN GENERAL, the better your odds and features, the more difficult it is to improve them, and vice versa.

3) Now begin the game by shooting the first ball. Use the 3 different tilt or nudge keys (up, left & right) to affect ball travel; they will only do this when the ball contacts a playfield post, not when it's rolling. Try to lite 3, 4, or 5 in-line on the backglass.

IF EARLIER YOU LIT THE OK FEATURE and/or some MAGIC SCREEN LETTERS, at some point during the game the "PRESS NOW" panel will flash. Use the left and right arrow keys to move the Magic Panel to the most advantageous position for the numbers you have lit. You can now get 3, 4, or 5 in a colored section to win.

IF YOU LIT THE OK FEATURE,

"ANY 2 IN ORANGE SECTION STARTS NEW FREE RED LETTER GAME WITH GUARANTEED FEATURES INDICATED BY RED LETTER IN MALIBU"

You can try to win an OK free game by getting 2 or more in the orange section. On the backglass, one letter in MALIBU will be lit RED; see instruction card for the guaranteed features that you'll get in this free RED-LETTER GAME.

The later you are permitted to move the MAGIC SCREEN, the better; the panels to the right of the Bingo card control this. A lit arrow indicates which panel may lite next; the higher, the better. If you lite the yellow or red star, try to hit it on the playfield. This will allow you to move the MAGIC SCREEN later in the game.

4) After you have shot at least two balls, look into the holes on the playfield for lites which indicate a 'hit'. Flashing lites indicate an immediate 'hit'. Move the MAGIC SCREEN (if you can) with the left and right arrow keys to see additional 'hits'. Try to make the best 'hit' with your next ball(s).

5) After shooting the fourth ball, whenever you want to collect on a winning 3, 4, or 5 hit,

"PRESS THE S(core) KEY TO REGISTER REPLAYS. Press Button After Shooting 4th Ball"
Credits will be added to the 4 digit Replay Meter, according to the odds and features you have lit.

6) After shooting the fifth ball, you may try to improve your game with 1 to 3 EXTRA BALLS. Below the odds panels are panels that control this.

"TO PLAY FOR EXTRA BALLS PRESS Y(ellow) KEY TO DEPOSIT ADDITIONAL COINS".

Each press of the Y(ellow) key inserts another coin, which will be added to your total on the bottom left of the screen. You need to lite 3 panels for one EXTRA BALL. Each coin may (or may not) lite 1 or more panels.

7) "WHEN GAME IS COMPLETED, PRESS S(core) KEY"

IF YOU HAVE WON AN OK GAME,

"TO START RED-LETTER GAME PRESS S(core) KEY UNTIL ALL BALLS DROP"

"FOR AMUSEMENT ONLY
No Prizes or Gambling Permitted"
