MGM filed for bankruptcy?

This is true! WOW. Here's a small "quip" from one of the companies that filed not so long ago; but it seems they are back......this was from a Yahoo post.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. This studio's archives include classics like The Wizard of Oz, Dr. Zhivago, and Rocky, but a dearth of recent hits--plus debt piled on when a group of private investors bought the studio in 2005--led to a much-anticipated bankruptcy filing in November. MGM should be back on its feet by early 2011, with a much lower debt load and new owners eager to move forward on big projects like two new Hobbit films and the 23rd James Bond flick.

Seems like we are looking at some great stuff here! Two NEW Hobbit films? YEEHAW! I'm excited to say the least! I can't wait.....

MGM has been having problems for several years, they were supposed to start on the next Bond film 2 years ago and The Hobbit has been delayed for even longer.

The Bond delay was strictly financial, but The Hobbit films had other issues, they kept messing with what director to use, Jackson was in, then out, now back in.

This was anticipated. They've had too many bombs and are out of money.
Bond is their cash cow and when a studio cancels that which keeps the studio afloat then you know things are looking pretty grim.
You can also predict the future when their library of pre 1986 films are sold off to produce revenue (over a decade ago). Ted Turner owns the library last I heard, and currently the post 1986 MGM library is the backbone of "This TV" a new t.v. network seen mainly on digital subchannels.

I think their last movie was "Hot Tub Time Machine". They haven't been making too many lately.

Wow! 23 bond films? who knew...the hobbit is on top of my list anyhow, if they can stay afloat long enough to make it then that should bring them back from the point of doom.

Point of doom, yeah.
But you realize that Casino Royale was a success. So was the last one, "Quantum of Solace", but then they go off track with a slew of commercial disappointments and bombs like "Hot Tub Time Machine" and "Fame" and end up in the red all over again.
