My gal is currently in the hospital

after undergoing a four hour operation to repair her Umbilical hernia the docs gave her TWO dilaudid drip bags neither of which touched her pain but they did cause her breathing to slow down enough so that now she is staying in the hospital overnight for observation. I stayed there from 10 this morning just getting home about 1 hr. ago at 8:45pm , it's 1 1/2 hours away so nothing got done today on the contest pin, tomorrow I am going back to get her so probably nothing will be getting done on it tomorrow either. The surgeon also took a Biopsy of her liver, now we are scared for he mentioned Hepatitis C to her. I haven't googled that one yet, so I don't know if it's serious or not. but It sounds like it is...this same post will be going up over at vpf too, so for the time beng my pin building is on hold until we find out more on her condition since I will be at her place alot once she gets discharged. she is in extreme pain and has a mesh patch sewn onto her abdominal wall I feel so lost knowing there's nothing I can do to help her at all

I know a few people that have had the mesh put in, it does seem to work preventing recurrence of the hernia.

Did the surgeon see scaring on the liver? Or do they always take a biopsy of the liver when they are "in the area"? Hepatitis C will scar the liver slowly over time without any other symptoms, so it is good to know if you have it or not (requires blood to blood contact so a lot of nurses and EMTs have it). There are treatments for it.

They are so worried about people getting hooked on pain meds that they often don't manage pain very well. It can be very hard for people with low pain thresholds.

Hope she heals quickly and gets back to normal soon. And the hep C test comes back negative.

she has been drinking for years so that may be why the docs took the biopsy ( only met her last year; she had been a heavy vodka drinker for about ten years!) and I mean heavy; like a half gallon every five days! I have been after her to quit, but now she's forced to! I don't drink at all so I have been a bit of an influence on her lately as she has cut down quite a bit since we first met! So with that I think the docs (since they were in there anyhow) decided to take the biopsy just in case...we have our fingers crossed too... thanks...

Thoughts and prayers are with you my friend. I was also a heavy drinker when I was younger. I finished a half gallon of Skol during one night at a party. Have toned it down since then.
