God said "No man shall know when the world will end!" :appl:

Merry Xmas

No. But he also said there would be signs, meaning it would not be hard to guess. Tomorrow? Probably not. Very Soon? That is exactly what your mother should believe.

where i come from, god's this wacky old junkie who lives down the street and likes to sit on his front porch and tell really old stories that people used to take seriously a long time ago. for some reason there's always a bunch of goofy kids around him, hanging on his every word and giving him free money and shit. i must say i envy him, sometimes.

If you replace deity with alien the bible makes just as much sense, and is easier to believe. I think there is a lot of truth in it, but that it is twisted tighter that a preachers' prick in a calfs' ass.

I just figured the Mayans ran out of paper....

Lol Shockman, never heard that one before!

You mean like Captain Spaulding?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0251736/combined

the synopsis of that movie sounds kind of like the old west hotel in which the unlucky travelers who stop in for dinner are robbed, murdered and buried. a real-life story i read in the "big book of the weird wild west" graphic anthology, if you're familiar with that series. it's 3 - 4 pages of panels which i can probably link pics to if anyone's interested.

well, it's the 21st... when are the fireworks supposed to begin?? i'm gonna be pretty disappointed if the apocalypse doesn't happen before man has a chance to do the job himself. dammit.

It's a hodge-podge "homage" to B- horror film conventions, with a few inspired moments that are then tossed aside in favor of irrelevant burlesque.
Not very scary at all and meanders a lot.

It's main focus is the "Route 66 Curio Shop and Amusement Stop"; those odd places which in past times featured "The Giant 6 Foot Jackrabbit" that turned out to be a large figure formed with chicken fence wire with a moldy flea-bitten fur pelt thrown over it, or a stuffed Eagle or Vulture looming over the doorway, and often offered the sight of a live rattlesnake in a cage for a few dollars more.

The Captain Spaulding character is the shady proprietor of the curio shop gas stop and museum; a Dutch Uncle God figure. Like the Father who owned the gas station in Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), Captain Spaulding talked to the hapless (goofy young) travelers as the counterman and then directed them to stop by The Firefly House, of which he was a member.
This reads creepier than it plays out in the film. The film is mostly gore-porn, not very scary at all.

The title sequence is the best part of the movie, featuring rock music played to an onscreen Betty Page-style stripper intercut with autopsy footage.

Personally I like Natural Born Killers! that flick rocked imo
but back to the worlds end...
It can't end tomorrow because it's already tomorrow in Australia! :D

Unless of course, the world ends by having its face torn off. Then it would have to start somewhere.
Not a pretty thought.

Else, the world is already ended and they didn't bother to tell us.
Else they can't tell us because they are already...

...in which case, we are saved!

It only 5:00 pm here, so there is still hope.

a big, windy snowstorm hit northern ohio and the midwest, today. does that count?

even though it messed up my day's meager plans, i must say it was nice to get the winter wonderland thing going for the first time this season. really maximises my 7th-floor apartment, what with the elevated view of snowy roofs and trees, the mysterious and borderline-magical white haze through the windows, and the cozy heating system that makes it feel great to be indoors. it's been a pretty sorry year for me all around, so this storm is like a rare perk for me.

bonus points for the diner next door being open 24 hours on fridays and saturdays. gonna get me an egg-white omelet with a big bottle of red tea, and THEN i'M GONNA EAT THAT MOFO!

I love it when stores and diners are open 24 hr.
I remember when I thought the world was ending when many outlets in L.A. cut back to "Open Til Midnight" after being bought by Kroger Ohio or others.

why do you figure you're a nightowl, sleepy? (said the nightowl)

I don't know why I lean toward the nightside these days, but in the 70's it was all about the music.
Listening to AOR FM on headphones though the night to avoid the conflict of family television.
And that it was very cool to hit the all night pinball arcades.
Pinball never looked right to me in the broad daylight.

It is nice to be able to drive down the street without the daytime traffic, that is, when I have a car, or to hit the market without the long lines and parking congestion. It increases my sense of independence!

In the earlier time of listening to AM radio, I think they played the more interesting songs at night.

And oh yeah. In the daytime in the 70's, when I would turn on the Quad 4 channel speakers and spin records and the FM, the upstairs would then have to turn on their music and crank it up louder, then start dancing on our ceiling. This would happen frequently, and usually when they were not listening to anything beforehand. In consideration I usually kept the volume down simply so that my music would not interfere with them, cheap walls you know, though they never ever showed me the same consideration. Not usually.

But then, when I would strum my guitar or play the piano and make up new songs, the upstairs became very very Quiet, out of character with their usual noise level, as if they were listening, and this would happen even when I was strumming my solid body electric guitar without any amplifier.
Just the very quiet sound of an unplugged electric guitar with Ernie Ball Slinky Strings.

So yes, that also had a lot to do with becoming a night owl. :)

Ike Savage 7 floors up is too high for me.
My younger sister also resides in a high rise
but we grew up in a two story house.
Yes we had an attic but it was unfinished
meaning you got around by jumping from beam to beam!
Or walking as we got older. Miss and you could fall through the floor
which could be through one of our bedroom ceilings underneath!
But don't high winds bother you? or hail storms if you have large
plate glass windows? or the worse a fire below you. See a ladder fire truck
can only get to the fifth floor any higher and your on your own
unless you can go higher to get to safe ground!:verysad:

So Long 12/21/12

And Thanks for

All the Fish. :)

a liteuser sighting? :o

@faralos,
it's the noise from the surrounding houses and the other apt building that bothers me the most. i like living in the penthouse.... up to a point.

Me, I always appreciate it when I am on the first floor and the upstairs are an elderly couple. No gangbangers or similar.

That works out the best, but I then feel for them when we have an earthquake because the second story is a terror on those occasions.
Every slight trembler is multiplied by two+ up there, and The Northridge Quake broke the stairwells from their mountings, so the upstairs had to find a new way to descend to the ground.

I have the oldest tenant in the universe living above me, and he definitely throws some wild parties from time to time. Occasionally he comes down to visit when I get a bit high from inhaling too many pencil shavings. :)

I can attest to the noise of living in the bottom apartment
there are two preschoolers who live above me who I think are
trying out for the elephant Olympics as they both love to
jump from what I think is their dresser right onto their floor which is my ceiling!
I love it when they go out to their daycare center then I actually get to enjoy
peace and quiet if only for a few hours
also they never heard of 'quiet hour' which is supposed to be between 8pm and 8am
they thump around right up to around midnite most weeknights
I've complained only to have it fall on deaf ears
ah well at least they don't throw wild parties

I would think that people who live upstairs would know that their footsteps are loud judging from the bouncing sounds of the floor in their own space, wouldn't you now?

Sometimes I get the feeling that the upstairs may in fact be foot masochists
who really mean to hurt their tootsies. As loud as it gets sometimes, some of those boomers have got to be painful.

oops...wrong button...:help:
