Newbie in need of help

I've used vpinball in the past - version 1.0.0.3 if that helps - but hadn't been active with it in a long time.

I just found this site and tried to update. A brand new install. Used the Visual install pack and downloaded my two favorites - medieval madness and Lord of the Rings.

Each of them show errors with .vbs based files (MM also throws a couple of errors with specific script lines). When I look in the tables folder, I see the files (wbc and sega, respectively), but vpin seems to think they're missing or need updating.

I spent a couple days uninstalling and reinstalling and searching to see if I could find newer files. As far as I can tell, I've downloaded all the latest versions of things.

Any help would be appreciated.

You are probably running Vista, which means you have to install and run everything 'As Administrator'.

Alternatively, turn off the UAC altogether.

That should solve these problems once and for all.

In this case it is probably just the paths.

Run the Setup of VPinMAME, press 'Setup Paths', and then press the 'RESET' button.

This should set all paths to your installation folder, which is 'Pinball' if you used the VIP.

Let us know if that worked.

Did you download the ROMs, or just the tables? They're not distributed together and you'll get errors like that if they're missing.

If so, can you tell me how to reproduce that?

Personally i dont remember ever seeing any VBS related message when ROMs were missing,...usually VPM just says 'Machine Terminated - Check ROM Path'.


(Though, if VPM is not installed (meaning if the DLL is not registered) then VP pops up some 'Cant find VBS' messages. Perhaps you just confused these two events?)

Ah damn, you're right, I was confusing the errors. I get the errors he described when I use a table that has the executeglobal createobject("scripting.filesystemobject").opentextfile(vbsfile,1).readall line because it can't find my scripts (because it doesn't look in the script folder).

My bad. Serves me right for goofing off at work like that.

Thanks for the help everyone. It's working now.

Not sure what I did different, but there was a windows update and a reboot in the process.
