13 is the magic number... i thought you guys knew that.

today at the supermarket they had these on sale for $6. actually the one i got has four LED colors, not two like in the pic. you push the button, a disc twirls, and a controller makes the (10 total) LED's spin / flash in different patterns. it's the sweetest toy i've seen in a while. :)

My Theory on the 13 thing.

Just like today, in ancient times, knowledge was power. I can imagine a time when those in power:king: controlled the calendar . They still do.Knowing there are 13 full moons in a year could have been a state secret. That makes the number 13 basic knowledge to the occult .

it runs even deeper than that, but the basic conflict of 13 is mysticism vs ordered heirarchy, or in more relevant terms, the roman catholic church vs more unwelcome christian interpretations, such as gnosticism... not to mention lingering paganism.

lot of things like these we moderns just have echoes and traditions leftover without really knowing what the original story was.

We do tend more than a bit shallow that way. I feel a sense of amnesia. Henry Ford said "History Is Bunk" When we learned that in school it meant history was a useless waste of time. That Ford's success was proof that only the present matters. I was a lazy student and eager to agree. As things progressed through the 70's and 80's I thought ford was wrong. I saw the U.S. repeating all the mistakes of the past. Now I wonder if Henry Ford meant, history is a pack of lies. These days I often say "Being an American Means Not Knowing What To Believe"...(Note> The Word 'Lie' smack in the middle of be'LIE've...) I find us steeped in a bewildering pile of possibilities with a palpable disconnect to the more distant past...C_S
