Path not found error

A few weeks ago, I lost my E: drive and had to totally replace my MAME32 and VP files. I re-installed VP and DL'd several tables and on some, like Eala's Kingdom Hearts, I get a path not found error, and when I look at the scripting, it pertains to the high scores. How can I fix this? Any and all help is appreciated.

If it is what i think it is you should go to the folder where VP is installed and create a new subfolder named 'User' in it.

The next time you boot a table thats affected by the Path Not Found message, VP will create a file named vpreg.stg in the 'User' folder. After that the Path Not Found message shouldnt be coming up anymore,...

I found the problem and it was as I feared. The scripting is geared toward the fact it's under the assumption that VP is installed on the C: drive. So, I installed the main files there and all works now, I just have two folders in different locations. But VPM's directories are all linked to the E: drive.

Nope, thats not true. VP and VPM can be installed anywhere, it doesnt matter as long as the paths are correct and there are no other problems on your computer or with the setup.

(In fact VP doesnt need to be 'installed' at all, the scripts will always work when they are in the 'Tables' folder and some of them will also work when they are in the 'Scripts' folder. This is of course assuming that the VP executable is within the same parent-folder as the Tables and Scripts folder, otherwise there might be problems. BTW, the same goes for the User folder too.)

I myself have VP/VPM on the F:\ drive for years and its working fine. Other people are using other drives than C:\ too. Its not really a problem.



P.S.: You could always try a fresh setup with the Visual Install Pack in case it bothers you that you had to split some of the setup to C:\. Simply save your .vpt files and your ROM .zips, uninstall VP/VPM, install the VIP, then move .vpt's into Tables folder and ROM .zips into ROMs folder. The rest like samples and VBS etc. will already be there, just be sure to adapt the paths for VPM (Setup -> SetupPaths -> Reset) and everything should work as expected.

Got it done, but in the most roundabout way. I had to un-install from the C: drive, move the User, Music, and CFG folders into the E:/New Volume/Pinball folder, re-install to the E: drive and link the directories to E:, now everything works fine. I've never had that problem before. Weird.
