or from a recent visitor to the LA area.
So, as many pinball places are no longer open and the old yelp topics on pinball are no longer current, I thought I would share the pinball I've played recently in the LA area (most on the Westside, as that's where I reside.) I've also called around to local bowling alleys, and most have one pinball machine. Please add on to this list!!
These are places I've been.
1. Arcade across from Los Angeles City College on Vermont, cross street Normal, on the East side. Fabulous selection of pinball- 10 games- Elvis, Sopranos, Playboy, Monopoly, Indiana Jones, Lord of The Rings, South Park, and a couple others I can't remember. Games are in good working condition, and $.50 a game on all games except Lord of the Rings, which is a better deal.
2. Pinball at the Santa Monica Pier sucks. The many games are in poor working condition- every single one played had something wrong with it. And they just upped their prices. NO THANKS. Austin Powers, South Park, Harley, Elvis, Addams Family, Simpsons, and others.
3.Pinz on Ventura Blvd has a variety of games (including The Dark Knight) that were in good shape. I found the arcade area extra loud (why does the air hockey table need to be so close?) and the pinball prices expensive. But, it is a somewhat upscale bowling alley, so the price inflation (and good care of games) is to be expected.
4. Busby's on Santa Monica Blvd has Sopranos and Simpsons. Really good deal- $2 for 5 games, or you can just show up on game night (Sunday) and they'll give you fake money for tokens for free (!). Sopranos game- the safe is broken, which you need to advance rank- so it's not great. The Simpsons works OK. Overall- pretty nice spot to grab a beer and play cheap/free pinball.
5. Wish I could remember the name of this next place- It's one of the 4 pizza joints in Buellton (maybe Gino's?) next to a Mexican restaurant/market. Yummy pizza and... TWILIGHT ZONE in perfect working condition! If you're up there, and you can find the place from my poor instructions, it is worth it!!!
6. Pinball right by the front entrance of the Ventura Harbor Village arcade. A couple games, very cheap prices and 4 balls a game. Right by the beach.
