Williams Solved Police Force (Williams, 1989) lower display dead

I'm probably in over my head, but maybe someone here can help me start trouble shooting my Williams Police Force machine. The lower display is blank. When I got the machine, it was fine but recently it quit working. Everything else works fine with the machine. I don't know my ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to the computerized electronics in this game, but I do know how to work a meter and can work on older mechanical games. So far, my trouble shooting has consisted of making sure everything is plugged in tight. If anyone can give me some advice on where to start, I'd sure appreciate it.

If you can clarify, I might be able to assist. When you say lower display, are you talking about to entire alpha numeric display (both top and bottom row) or just the bottom row. I ask because this machine as a display in the top left of the backbox as well.

just the bottom row. the smaller display at the top works fine and the top row of the lower display works also.

Sorry, been really busy at work. Without looking at it, I know you are having issues with the master display board. Could be a had chip but since it is totally blank I am leaning towards the glass display itself. Have you considered replacing with LED displays. Pinscore makes some very since ones.

I also know a guy that does really good board repair but if the display itself is bad it could cost as much as going with the above replacement.

Thanks for the info, my job is crazy right now also. I'm pretty new to pinball. The game is pretty fun to play even without the display working completely but I want to change some of the options (game is set for three balls now, I want 5 ball games, stuff like that) and I need that lower display for that. My other machine is a 1965 Williams Lucky Strike, not as hard to understand as the newer machine!

Sorry, I don't understand your comment. Right now my other passion, playing vinyl on old turntables, is taking my time and money. I'll be installing an led display in the pinball machine after the new year.

Better late than never, a new display fixed the problem. I'll start another thread with my new issues, if I can't find anything out with the search button. Thanks for the help on this one!
