Help Problem writing Launch scripts

I have been having issues finding out what the script commands mean in Launch scripts
It has them listed on the side but do not know what they are directing to.
Found a lot of examples but no meaning examples.

I dont know what STARTDIR means, or DIREMU etc.

If I am trying to get a game running though pinup popper, (I have a few exe that are vertical) How do I get those to run.

I have a few vertical games with steam as well, but cannot get the scripts to stick.

Looked at all the examples on multiple sources( or at least what I can find). But nothing that I found explains the bracket commands.
Also not sure what VPXSTARTER.exe does.

If anyone can put me in the right direction that would be lovely.

I slowed down a little bit and read a bunch of guides throughly.
Was looking for a straight definition. But it looks like its not that simple.
Going off of examples, trial and error and watching a ton of videos on examples. With the examples that are out there.
I can probably figure it out.
