I don't see Harvey there, but on Friday, Tanya was on one of the tv tabloid shows that I happened to catch while trying to get the sound working again.
I think the cat puked on the back of the set. The video inputs are all good, but the tuner is shot.

I saw Brian at the old Tower Records Hollywood. He was there to promote his comeback album, that first one co-produced by Dr. Eugine Levy.
And he looked exactly the same as before.

They did. We entered.

Brian stood there at the front of the store looking haunted and silent, pretty much the same as he did for The Beach Boys reunion at The GRAMMYS.

CS, the tobacco experiment on the mice. What was the form of the tobacco used and the concentration? Were these normal mice, or bald mice, or other?

Science teacher George Wright really made an impression with this one! He made a mash of cigarette tobacco with some liquid. I don't know for sure but believe it was water and ethanol(Some Glycerine?). He ended up with a thick dark brown liquid. Probably a concentrate. He used white mice. Some mice had that extract painted directly on their backs(Fur). He shaved the backs of others and applied the solution directly to their skin. He left a few unmolested as a control group. I saw him treating the mice and think he only applied the extract once to each mouse. After about three weeks he was showing everyone the results. They were not pretty...Those treated mice had serious skin lesions, discoloration, growths and developing tumors. The shaved mice were in the worst shape. I think one of the unshaven mice was just stained. This was quite convincing and poignant as the mice were only treated once.

If it was ethanol, then the ethanol is problematic.
For instance, ethyl alcohol will kill a cat. Dogs and cats also cannot eat chocolate, onions, etc. It is also toxic to apply alcohol to the skin of a cat. And tar itself can burn the skin of anyone, depending on concentration. Pure oxygen has to be cut with neutral gases, else it will burn and destroy the lungs on contact.

Also, there needs to be an indication that white mice have the ability to metabolize the substances, possess the enzymes and appropriate metabolic functions and immunities, else the experiment is a cheat.

EDIT: I suspect the white mice are fragile, like albinos. Many furry creatures are.
The fur protects them from excess sunlight and plant materials.
The quickest way I know of to develop cystic lesions in a mouse is with their own piss, and alcohol is a reducing agent which may reduce urine in the mouse's sweat to ammonia.
For that matter, the application of plant tars might trap the piss against the skin.

was that brian wilson's eponymous album? if so, i ran out and bought it on 33. i found the songs interesting on the whole, not quite radio poppy, a little syrupy at times, but well made. i reckon they might have made an interesting backing to some western stage musical.


did you see a vastly overweight tanya harding in the news recently? she claims that the sneak attack on kerrigan was something she had no prior knowledge of (which does make sense), but by taking too long to inform authorities when she later find out, it basically ruined her reputation, career, and sent her in to a downward spiral. she said she later went in to boxing(!) to make a living, i guess because people liked to see her get beaten up.

then again, tanya has a long list of offenses and weird behavior on her record. then again, sometimes things aren't always connected the way we think they are. anyway, i thought it was interesting.

Yep to Brian, the one with the cover that had the leafy green background with his face, though I'm thinking "the western themes" had more to do with his next album, the one that came out after his comeback release .

But I remember watching Tanya at The Olympics. She will say anything in hindsight, but at the time of her performances, she was brutally arrogant in the direction of her opponent, not even apologizing for any misunderstanding. Pure cheese.
I can't believe she didn't know nothing. What year was that??

And later, when she became a female boxer, with a long strand of hair down the side of her face. She sure played it the same, but the money was probably excellent.

meh, you might be right. i was trying to put myself in her young-girl shoes, imagining how awkward that whole thing was and how very unsure what the right thing might be to do or say in order to come off well.

a theme i notice among humans is how easy it is for people to get brutalised not so much by their mistakes, nor their ability to cope, but moreso by how the whole operation looks to other people... meaning, because some people aren't very good at PR, so to speak. that is, even if the whole thing is rather silly (which obviously the kerrigan thing was not).

some people can commit murder, admit how wrong they were, and get a whole second life in the american court of judgement, you know? or say you live in a small town-- one small awkward exchange can blow up for years, it seems. so better to speak in bland pleasantries, or something.

anyway, you can research the harding - kerrigan thing as you like. but no, it seemed pretty clear to me that if harding had been proven to know about the operation beforehand, she would have ended in the slammer like her ex's crew did. (IIRC)

Don't have a lot of time to talk right now, but no, I watched the events at the time and Harding seemed extremely snarky about everything. Do I remember her taking a very painful spill on the ice after all the trouble? I'm not sure atm.

You might be right about misjudgement, and I would like to see a replay of those events, just to check out my loss of wisdom over the years.

I don't know... I watched the ESPN documentary on it. I guess a person can be forgiven their mistakes in their misspent youth, but not at the cost of those mistakes being the mold for the clay of one's character. What clued me in to what makes Tanya tick was her recent interview in the documentary where she, to this day, is shocked that Nancy didn't want to have a conversation with her the first time they met after she was a suspect in the attack... shocked that Kerrigan would snub her! What I saw was a woman who had absolutely no sympathy for someone who was attacked by, at the very least, a person hired by her then-husband. I would bet money that she planned the whole thing.

pretty inter3sting vids. i noticed a relative of darth vader in there.

so what was so terrible about vid 2, mark 4:20? what should she be apologising for, exactly, if her ex hadn’t been caught yet and she had no knowledge of the scheme yet? (assuming those statements are accurate)

does that mean that every other skater in competition should have been making overtures of sympathy and apology to kerrigan at that point? i suspect they had a lot of pressures and responsibilities as it was.

Wrong Figure For Skating ?

While watching video #1 I started wondering if Tonya Harding's enemy might have been her own body type. Did her ample T & A and resulting center of gravity induce a tendency towards awkwardness on ice? Are successful female figure skaters usually a bit more petite?

Two, for someone "who always shoots from the hip", she seems to be stumbling over her words, as if she isn't sure about what to say, and three, she is speaking in an apparent upbeat mood about a horrible incident with zero empathy and with a smile, but later, is extremely emotional over her shoelaces.

She seems to be relieved by the attack. It is also very odd to bad mouth the press when you are aiming for Gold while being the center of attention at The Olympics.
Is she there for private satisfaction?

Yes CS, and she attitudes might instead be a simple matter; that she was put to the task of Olympic Skater by her Mother, like ballerina lessons. Like piano lessons.

Maybe she was only rebelling against obligations that she did not consent to, and then was responsible for the tremendous expenses.

all of those things can be read in various ways, especially by strangers who don't know her, heavy on the cherry-picking. but i'm not saying it's conclusive either way. all i'm saying is that i can't make an easy decision given the evidence i'm aware of.

of course i do notice we humans have a pretty relentless streak of reading meaning in to things quite apart from the realities that exist. especially across the miles, when the personal stakes are small and one's moral compass has a chance to exercise itself.

Not at all. To be honest, Tanya ain't got no "T". Yeah, that's right... I checked out the Penthouse that published the still shots from her honeymoon video that was... stolen? Released? I think she released it. Absolutely no T. The A is not a hindrance and probably an aid. Google Katarina Witt or Michelle Kwan and just look at the thighs on these girls! There's a couple of those vice grips I'd like to be caught in.
