Road Runner (Original) - This is an update to Roney Pinball's wonderful table.

Road Runner is a great table created by the incredible table developer Roney Pinball. I decided I wanted to work on a simple table with a simple update so I chose Road Runner. It didn't take long; however, to determine that it was a bit more sophisticated than I thought. It has a flyer that explains a few things but not everything. I decided to write a set of rules since no one had ever posted them before now. I wrote quite a few rules that filled up both instruction cards on the apron but I...

Thanks, George :)
the table is loading with a static view only, despite the default camera setting one being highlighted. The flippers are only just showing on a 27 inch monitor. Any help here getting the flippers to be correctly aligned like the other future tables would be much appreciated

There is only a small difference in the camera view I created and the Full table 2 view. Try cycling through the camera views until you find "BAM Camera: Future Pinball" which is the Full Table 2 view and you can see the difference.

All good now George thanks :)

Very nice @GeorgeH really a fun table, love the famous meep meep 8-)

Thanks!

If you hold the plunger down longer, the ball will go up to the miniplayfield. It takes longer because of the plunger mod I added which is intended to provide more control over when the ball is released. However, having the ball roll back to the kicker with the ball being sent to the left wire ramp (as you did it) gets more points.

Hi George,
Very nice and well playing table. Thanks!

Road Runner (Original)

One of the guys informed me that when the ball rolls down either inlane and hits the flippers, it bounces upward. I moved the flippers down slightly to correct the problem. I thought the flipper angles and swing might need to be adjusted but I found that the old settings worked best.

When I was working on the issue, I also noticed the ball would sometimes get stuck in the inlane below the right wire ramp. I found the ball was hitting a ring hanging down from the ramp so I changed the ring...

i was going to get around to the bump in the flippers.
i was going to do it myself in the editor.
one more fix.
you do it.
i have no experience making tables.
the lower slings at the flippers are flat at the top bumper.
no bounce..
try 0.7 elasticity.
the ball should bounce up, and sometimes the ball will bounce across the table into the side drain when the ball hits the upper rubber bumper at the right speed and angle can happen a lot.
look at time slot 0:52, 1:19 and 1:24 and 1:27.....no bounce...flat

You are correct. I should probably have set the rubber bands on both slingshots to be soft rubber. Roney had them set to hard and I never thought to change them.

It is easily changed by anyone. All that is needed is to open the FP editor for the table to layer 4 and click on the rubber band for each sling. Then look in the right pane for "Elasticity" and change the pull down from Hard to Soft. Then save.

one last idea i didn't mention.
the video on this pin in the #5 and #6 link is dark.
is it the video or is the table dark?
how do i brighten up FP tables that are on the dark side?

I have found that screenshots and video tend to be darker than the real thing. I have never understood why but suspect that it is because monitors have a bright light driving them where images don't seem to have so much light (or perhaps not as much contrast) even though they are displayed on a monitor.

I have addressed changing brightness in my guide. Look for the section "Make Tables Lighter or Darker" in my intermediate guide. I should probably revise step 5a. You won't be able to change the lighting option on the BAM menu if the table has the lighting set in the script. Just look in the script for something that looks like this that I copied from Road Runner:

xBAM.Lights.EnableNewRenderer = TRUE
xBAM.Lights.MainLightLock = FALSE
xBAM.Lights.SetMainLightPosition 0, 400, 800
xBAM.Lights.SetMainLightProperties 1, 0.15, 0.75, 0.1 ' .15 was .45
xBAM.Lights.SetMainLightAttenuation 0.915, 0.065, 0
xBAM.Lights.SetOtherLightsAttenuation 0.2, 0, 1
xBAM.Lights.EnablePostprocessing = FALSE
xBAM.Lights.SetPostprocessing 1, 0, 1, 1
xBAM.Lights.SetPostprocessingForNewRenderer 1, 0, 1, 1, GammaTweak4, 1, 1, 1, 0.2

On Road Runner, the easiest way to adjust the amount of light is to change the value for "Const GammaTweak4 = 2.2" at the beginning of the script. My tables usually have ways to adjust the lighting from "Day" to "Dark Night". I have not seen any of the other table developers do it though.

This is my intermediate guide that has step 5a:

nice, thanks for the info.
didn't know that.
always something new to learn.

My intention on this version was to update some minor errors on the FizX tweaker. I have been playing it quite a bit and decided it was worth adding more features, especially since everyone seems to like it. The main features I added are Surround Sound Feedback (SSF), Lighting, and Easy Play Mode. I think this table would appeal to children who would probably prefer the Easy Play Mode. All the features I added are listed below. I highly recommend you read the Instructions PDF file in the...

Thank you for your hard work. How can I enable DMD extensions? Simply changing the script value from false to true doesn't seem to work and I didn't find anything related in the AIO test table mentioned there.

I actually don't know much about DMDext other than I know it exists. I don't have a cabinet and don't have any experience with it. In fact, I just learned how to add SSF to my previous table mod, "Medieval Castle".

I think the main problem you are experiencing is this table does not have a DMD. Instead, it has segmented displays that I think were used mostly on early solid state tables. Gimli posted a guide on how to add a DMD to a table that he says can be done in 5 minutes or less here:

Then TerryRed's guide should help you to implement DMDext.

Also, I have seen videos of other pinball cabinet enthusiasts playing electro-magnetic tables on their cabinets by just displaying the full backbox on their upper monitor. From the videos, I was able to read the score reels on the backbox without any problem. I would think that if you can read score reels on the backbox, you should be able to read segmented displays.

The Hud Toggle Key on this table works and will help you turn off the HUD.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for your response. And yes, I can read the score in the backbox fine, I was just curious about the DMD because of your comment about it. It's a little annoying seeing the DMD section completely black in my cab! :-)

It appears that other virtual pinball cabinet enthusiasts are able to get used to not having a DMD, I found this guy playing Eight Ball Deluxe on his cabinet and it has a segmented display with no DMD. ...But it you feel like you must have it, you can follow Gimli's guide.

This table does not have a DMD, therefor there is nothing for DMDExt to mirror. So this table wont ever display anything on a DMD display.

That will be the case with any FP table that does not have a 128x32 DMD (explained in my DMDExt Guide). This is not Visual Pinball which also uses VPinMAME to make that work. They are complete different things.

@GeorgeH

The inclusion of enabling DMDext in the AIO Example table's code was added by JLou, and he has a page (linked to in that table's tutorial) detailing how to make it work (it's not automatic). It's honestly not needed for 98% of cabinet players as they tend to use their front-end to run DMDExt anyway, and they also can use my "Start FP" bat files to launch dmdext as well for any table as desired (when not using a front-end). JLou wanted it added, so best to read his page about using it.

I would remove the DMDext portion from the AIO Example code when used on a table that can't support it at all at the very least. It was labelled as an Optional update / feature.

I figured I was not allowed to change anything unless there are directions to do it. Anyway, I presume I need to delete the following code?

Launch_DMDExt = false ' launch DMD Extensions external DMD window directly from the table
' DMDExt needs to be installed and additional setup is required
' DO NOT enable unless you do the additional setup required (you will get errors)
' read AIO Example Table tutorial for more information

Different section of code:

'######################## DMDExt - Launch from table ########################

' By JLou

' This is used to Launch DMDExt directly from the table (if enabled)
' This requires the BAM iCOM plugin to be set in the table script first to work!
' In the BAM menu, the BAM iCOM plugin must be set to "Same as VPX" to work!
' Read AIO Example Table tutorial for more information

Dim Launch_DMDExt
Dim DMDext : Set DMDext = icom.CreateObject( "WScript.Shell" )

If Launch_DMDExt = true then
DMDext.Run """%DMDFP_EXE%"" mirror -s futurepinball -g " & xbam.table.name & " -q --use-ini=""%DMDFP_INI%""",0
End If

'##################### DMDExt - Launch from table - End #####################

Yes, correct.

I assume the FizX DMD doesn't count because it is for the HUD although it could be changed to a backglass DMD. But then a cab probably does not have the arrow keys needed to navigate. I guess I could add Gimli's code that uses flipper and plunger keys to navigate it but it is probably not worth the effort since there aren't many tables that don't have DMDs.

I am curious. Your tables usually have a FizX HUD DMD. How do you use it on your cabinet?

I don't use the FizX DMD on my cabinet at all. I do all my creation / testing on my main PC (except for DOF testing which must be done on my cabinet). I don't think any cabinet players ever see any HUD DMD's for FizX or anything at all, because those are always set to Hide for cabinet players.

On my cabinet, I normally run Popper (front-end) which launches DMDext at the same time it launches FP and the table (for the table's normal DMD).

I will surely adjust the level of contrast and light of the playfields to define a brighter color and obtain a less defined ball shadow. But the beauty of this table is in its code, thank you

There are 5 lighting modes if you press the Special 2 key as a toggle.
