Shocked, man!

Goddammit, Arne! Okay, I looked up Count Yorga! Two things struck me: Michael Murphy? Man, I guess we all had to start somewhere. MGM tried making a scary movie in the '70s? MGM tried making a movie in the '70s? I found a great-looking version of Count Yorga on Youtube. Followed back to 70s Movie Zone, the people who posted it, and found just a treasure trove of great celluloid!

Would you just look at that? Some fantastic film noir, some deep spaghetti westerns (the non-Tarantino Django!) and, if you ever thought that Leslie Nielsen's performance in Airplane could have used a healthy dollop of Laverne and/or Shirley, there's Naked Space!
As with everything from punk rock to skateboard culture, by the time Chuck E. Cheese made its way from the coast to Kansas, it was watered down. I would have liked to have visited one of the original Bushnell Chuckies. In mid-90s Wichita, all the arcade had was crappy ticket-spewing games and a few sad excuses for '90s arcade games. The "restaurant" atmosphere could best be described as a children's-birthday-party concentration camp.

Well, kick me in the balls and call it pudding! They've posted the Evel Knievel movie! Wasn't a boy in my 4th grade class that missed that when they showed it on the Teebee! The Citizen Kane of movies about clowns who jumped over shit on a motorcycle!

Okay. If that Count Yorga is this one, then it is not the movie with a 37 minute credit for Quarry with the soundtrack running in the background.

A wag did that, I'm sure. It's a very looose reference to my current Dracula treatment, like using thoughts in the background, or music concrete instead of a score.

Yorga was bought post facto by Orion. It was definitely an AIP picture in '69, which is why I mentioned it after seeing the Corman films listed at Shout.
And the wag probably posted that odd cut because, well, I Am At Peace. :)
And because I created the damn movie.

And...I've been talking about a reboot of Yorga, as The Count in control of Los Angeles, its business politics.and its social manners to the maner born.

Had to EDIT. My cat trashed my post.

Trouble is best left sleeping.

Ah well. The history of Yorga is said 'to have started out as a soft-core porn film', but 'was later changed to a horror pic'. I can see that in the seduction of "Erica", however, I believe that scene is deliberately slow and seductive to convey the rape of trust and of the viewer. For my money though, I would have used more of a jump cut approach.
for that sequence, with Yorga's face covered in her blood. As it stands, it does not shock. It is merely disconcerting. Else Great Sex, or so-so.

I was once very good with a knife, at least in my thoughts.

...

You see that pizza place? This is where movie deals are made...when you're a college boy.
In 1977, my upstairs neighbor was a teen Black. "Tony". He was mellow, but with issues.
He was going to shoot his own 8mm version of "Star Wars".

I didn't ask for the biz. Wasn't going there. And that fact alone won't stop the college boys. They have loans to account for.
U.C.L.A. and U.S.C. ain't cheap. I don't want to be like them, dreamin'. I think this is a rant!

Ahhhhhh!

Google won't let me embed that one. Please click for more deals...EDIT: It's Pizza by the Slice. No salad.

Well!

I must say, sleepy, it was fun walking down Hollywood Blvd with you. Is the pizza any good? The storefront's kind of ugly. I think I would have rather walked down the street with you in the '80s. There'd be less chrome Loew's theaters, I'm assuming. And no Cabo fucking Wabo. Fuck Sammy Hagar.
Wonder how that kid's 8MM dreams came out?

PS: I'm surprised at you, Arne. You post a view of Hollywood Blvd, and you don't include THIS Kinks song? What the hell's wrong with you? :D

Because I was waxing poetic on the grand illusion. I haven't even clicked it, don't know what you are referring to, but I'm betting that you are pointing at "Celluloid Heroes".
Is this correct. That is a tribute song to the masters and the downtrodden, but not at all about the pie-in-the-sky-trying-to-make-the-rent folks and dudes.

The pizza might be good there. In the 70's they were half-baked and soggy with reconstituted oiled onions, like wax apples on a wet crust served under an indoor plastic grape arbor, and it was a Biker's Haven. Hell's Angels and Sundowners.

They have definitely improved since, almost very good, though the cheese is sometimes rubbery. And they slipped me "the Orange Garlic" once, on Ringo's Walk of Fame Day when he got his star on Vine Street in front of The Capitol Records Building.

The great cheap slice was at the former Chicken Delight near Vine, but that was closed when the landlord rebuilt the location for fancies. That was where, one night, I encountered Sir Anthony Hopkins giving me a very convincing Lecter stare while I mulled a slice. It was a superior stare to anything seen on the screen, but I was only amused.

Tony. Well. His Mother died and he went on meds. Last time I saw him, he was planning a website for social issues. His brother Cricket left for Texas and became a slum lord.

About the folks. One night at the corner local mind you, Country Redneck Bar, I was patronized by Richard Widmark. He was putting on a Louisiana drawl as "a new arrival", and he and "Dotty" needed a ride back to The Peppertree Motel where we held up half the night till about 4 A.M. drinking beers while talking to his characterization. But with no coming clean. The Motel is on the way to Universal.

Kirk Douglas and Kay Ballard were at that bar separately, denying their identity. Playing other people.

The bar was staffed by the friend of my Brother. She was/is a drummer who lived next door to the Michael McDonald family in Sunland/Tujunga,Ca. That was never denied. I met Michael's sister who was a singer and model, Kathy. She had a small country rock band that played a gig at The Golden Horseshoe in N. Hollywood. I remember her singing the Anne Murray song , "What About Me?". Covers. They were good. They country-rocked it.
But of course, nothing was admitted to regarding any "borrowings".

The store is cheap-reasonable, but it's a dive for the broken dreams, and dreamers.
