So. Is The Caribbean Dangerous?

Well Ike, he WAS LOUD, Surfer Joe dude walking up in the darkness with the "HI! ARE ARE YOU? HEY>>>I NEED A DOLLAR FOR THE BUS...AW C'MON I NEED IT. A DOLLAR? JUST A DOLLAR??
CAN YOU PLEASE GIVE ME A DOLLAR?? OKAY???...AW C'MON. A DOLLAR??.." And then standing there a little longer. And after the light changed, he walked back to the sidewalk, pulled out his wad of bills and counted them. And waited for the next stop light. And then started over again.

But when the cops drove up, he went stone silent. He sat down on the bus bench with wide eyes and his head hung down. He looked like he was starting to have an O.D., but he was chillin'. As soon as they left, he was back to swagging and bragging. Just hanging out with the people. Working men and women and families and housewives.

Like many in San Francisco .... stop at the lights and a load of peeps come out to 'demand' money for smearing your windscreen, or rattling a collection box at the drivers window; hated the place with a passion. Luckily we were staying outside the city in Belmont and were only traveling through in the car. Did visit the city via train, which was nice, but again, I'm not a city person per se.

Will never repeat it, although Muir Woods [above and beyond the bridge] was fantastic :)

Oh, and went to take a photo of the pyramid building and a jobsworth [pretend police, eg security] descending upon us demanding we cease immediately and destroy what we've already taken FFS!

'It's against the law to photograph this building' says he!.
'Which specific law is that' says I.
'Just do it, or else' he growled.

Bloody dickhead. and off we went on our merry way taking even more photo's as we left. :D

For the record there were scores of tourists taking photographs .... and he was doing his best to dissuade anyone who'd listen ..... but his best was not good enough! :)

Oh, that. Photos of some public places seem to be prohibited by the Fed's Homeland Security laws, or were. It's considered as an act of casing/scouting a location for a potential terrorist target. They were also dissuading shots of the subways in L.A. for the same reason. And there are places that are not allowed to be seen by satellite or street view in Google Maps/ Bling! / Mapquest.

no photos of potential targets? that sounds ludicrously impractical. anyone with real intent could do it on the sly in dozens of possible ways.

so basically a security guard's salary is being wasted on some idiot going around annoying people. brilliant. why don't they spend it on camouflage instead?


btw elton, i was at muir woods a couple years ago. really nice... glad you liked it. only letdown was-- my nieces and i tried in vain to locate a banana slug.

Muir woods was brilliant. Not sure what a banana slug is, but we saw a lot of very cool bugs, insects and crayfish too. The fauna is to die for ... quite spectacular and defo worth a repeat visit. :)

I photograph anything and everything .... and I mean everything!

Usual for a 3-4 week holiday is anything like 4-5,000 photographs [although I have topped out on 8,000 back in 2012]. It's a wonderful record for the future and so cheap with digital cameras.

Pity my earlier photo's were film based ..... it was expensive then but now fabulous :)

a banana slug is a shell-less mollusc that lives on the rainforest floor. they recycle dead organic matter in to fresh soil, helping to keep the forest going.

they are also the official school mascot for univ. of calif., santa cruz. :)
