williams star ship
Hi all.
:help:
I am working on a Williams Star Ship pinball that a friend owns and Iwould appreciate some help!! It seems an easy fix, since once I turn it on, NOTHING HAPENS !! Not a sound, no lights, no movement... The 220 - 110V transformer is OK and I am about to check the second transformer that has a 6V and a 50V outputs.
Does anybody know if there is a "kill all" switch that would shut everything off? Any possibility I could get / order the manual and the schematics of this machine? Does WILLIAMS ELECTRONIC CORP. still exist?:headscratch:

Thanking you in advance and hopping I could turn this baby back on ..

The first thing that comes to mind is fuses. Does that game really have a separate 220 Vac to 110Vac transformer and have you bypassed it to run the game on standard 120Vac?

Smoke, thanks for the reply...

yes, fuses are all OK (my bad, I forgot to mention). This machine was and is in Greece, so yes there is a 220 to 110Vac transformer which feeds the one in the picture (110 to 6 & 50Vac).
Any ideas for the schematics?

Thanks again,
Thanos

A friend's Hi-Lo Ace (1973) had a greyish-white powdery-looking coating on the fuse board terminals that blocked 6V flow, but since it didn't LOOK like rust or other more common crud, I unsoldered and tested the transformer.

Just for fun, you understand.....

you sure it is a williams pin?
the only one I can find is made by Bally

We asked designer Greg Kmiec how many units of this game were actually made. He replies:
As I remember, only 1 engineering sample playfield and cabinet of Star Ship were made. Two backglasses were made, one for the game and one for art registration.

We subsequently received a picture of a second, NOS playfield, for this listing.

Greg Kmiec also explains why this game never went into production but instead was later used to make Supersonic:

fyi Bally, Williams, and Gottleib are all gone now the only big pinball company left is Stern
but then there are companies like this one that came into existence only recently
http://www.jerseyjackpinball.com/ and there are more too that are in the process of building pins

Have you confirmed power reaching the primary of the games main transformer? Are the 6Vac and 50Vac present at those secondary taps? Your photos(Nice,Sharp) show 2 primary windings with one tap for low voltage, 108Vac or lower. Make sure your line voltage is making it to one of those. Like I said above I think you need to bypass that step-down transformer. You would think at least some lights would come on.

Hey PM Gang is there a trick to get some EM games started that requires
pressing the left flipper button?
:headscratch:

Is this your machine?click>>> http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=2259

Thanks for your thoughts.

My pinball is the one that shows in "Coil-Smoke"'s link. The first image (#2151) is the one of the backglass.
I am sorry that Williams is gone now... I realy need those schematics. Any chance some one else has the manual?

I need to check the transformer, so I took it out of the machine and by tomorrow, I will have it on the bench for a thorough check.

Thanks again,

Thanos

Transformer checked and is OK ... 110VAC input, 6 and 50 VAC output on the bench. Only when I put it back on, there was no 110 reaching the primary side. it seems that one cable comes directly from the 110 transformer, but the other one (the one with the two colored cables) comes from somewhere within the harness, where I am lost ... I NEED those schematics...

Kind of exited !! Pinball Resource (NY) replaied that they have the schematics. I will place the order and take it from there ...
Thanks
Thanos
