Does anyone know if you can get the table Splatterhouse to run using VP on Windows Vista?

Solution
I think the Splatterhouse table was written for Visual Pinball version 8.1, so unless the table name or included instructions indicate that it is for VP ver. 9+, I would use that.

As for Vista or Windows 7, Right-Click on the Visual Pinball.exe, usually VPinball8.1.exe or (for ver. 912) VPinball912.exe and choose Run as Administrator.

And if you are "Mr. B", man do I have a theme song for you!
It's my pleasure. :)

I think that the table has issues with the Microsoft Scripting.
The below is from the page of the creator of the table.

Important Notes:

This table may require Microsoft Scripting 5.6, which can be downloaded from here.

This table uses the chiller.ttf font, which is included in the zipped table file.

Copy chiller.ttf to C:\Windows\Fonts and restart your computer, or the text in the game will look VERY ODD!!!

If you can't get the game text to look like this:

Microsoft Scripting 5.6 appears to be used in the following versions of Windows
System requirements
Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP

Bearing all this in mind, can the table be run in the Vista environmental?

Ok, setting the program to run as administrator solves the problem.

The table script was returning an error message saying "access denied".

Yep. You have to authorize the running of programs and scripts as an administrator because the newer versions of Windows, Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, do not trust Microsoft.

So it seems.
The odd thing is that this is the first table I have had this issue with and I have several hundred of them. Maybe it's something to do with the way Splatterhouse accesses the scripting? Anyway it works now so all's good.

Splatterhouse is an older table and, regarding that table, I don't know off the top of my head, but the older tables often do use FSO methods. FSO is VisualBasic Scripting shorthand for a FileSystemObject and, though FSO methods are still supported by VB Scripting and the Windows Script Host engine, these days they raise security flags in Vista and newer Windows systems.

The FSO methods are used to open files created by Visual Pinball or the table script and stored on the hard drive outside of the Visual Pinball program, usually in the \Visual Pinball\User folder, to read and/or to write to these files in order to save game data; high scores, etc.

And there are newer alternative methods in VB Scripting to access these functions that do not use the FSO methods and which do not raise these security flags.

I know it can be a pain but it's best to use the vp program that the table was originally built with some older pins use vp6 some use vp8
because the pins tend to not work in later versions

But aren't the VP6 tables compatible with VP8, but not compatible with VP9+?
I thought they were, though I could be wrong you know.
