I owned this. I got mine through The R.C.A.Record Club back in the Summer of 1968, several months after its release. In those days, the subscription clubs like R.C.A. Record Club did not offer the new smash albums until they began to slip in sales. So, 1968 it was.

Highlights are many here, and include pretty much the entire album, "Everybody's Next One", "The Ostrich", and "The Pusher". And, of course, "Born to Be Wild".

Hey, this copy is Muddled. But if you want the sound more factual to the actual recording, and you have an Equalizer Control on your playback system,

turn the 1 KHz down -12 db
turn the 250 Hz down -6 db
turn the 125 down -3 db

Turn the 31 Hz. Up +8 db
Turn the 62 Hz. Up +10 db
Turn the 2 KHz Up +4 db
Turn the 4 KHz Up + 4 db
Turn the 8 KHz Up + 6 db
Turn the 16 KHz Up + 4 db

are those from trial and error or more theory-based?

i used to use a winamp plugin that created a rich, tube-amp style sound. i should really try to track that down and see how it sounds on the bose.

DAMN...

Those are some severe tweaks to the audio ... Funny thing is this sounds good

I owned the album and I know the sound by heart. So, no trial and error, not so much.
It's that this album should have the bass punch and roll with emphasis as an underscore to the lyrics and pace. On a hi-fi system, you should Feel It. And the high end was never muddy or moody. I was and is Bright and Present. The guitar and the organ should be bright and prominent, and just slightly less bright than a typical Doors recording. But The Doors also used much wet reverb. Steppenwolf used presence
instead of reverb.

Maybe some of that tweak is compensating my speaker system, but most of it is necessary due to the muddled copy on YouTube. There was another upload of this album that had the correct EQ, but it has since been deleted.

If you have a Master Output slider on the EQ, you might turn that down about 2 notches.
This copy is muddled. The waveform definition is muddled and the EQ can't correct for that. It's like listening to a classic album on a cassette that fell in the gutter and got wet.

Dig Those 'SLEEPY TWEAKS'

turn the 1 KHz down -12 db

turn the 125 down -3 db

Turn the 31 Hz. Up +8 db
Turn the 62 Hz. Up +10 db
Turn the 2 KHz Up +4 db
Turn the 4 KHz Up + 4 db
Turn the 8 KHz Up + 6 db
Turn the 16 KHz Up + 4 db

Hey 'Sleepy', I was surprised to find this computer has those exact frequency bands. What brand of sound card are you listening to? Or are you using an actual EQ in your sound system? I have the low endiest Creative Sound Blaster PCI express installed in this machine and dig those crazy settings. I have them saved as " SLEEPY TWEAKS " :peace:

Hey Ike , Was that Winamp plug in SRS Audio Sandbox?

I also remember a Tube sounding thing that claimed to give the 'Valve' like responce and soft cliping curve to digital files. I think I may have payed actual cash money for it. If I did pay then where the fuck did it go and what was the damn thing called?

Uh yeah. I'm using SoundBlaster Dell X-Fi OEM. It used to be the XtremeMusic card, but it was branded for Dell, so it won't install the full set of XtremeMusic progs that it is very capable of running. Bummer.

O can't even do my favorite tweak on this card. I bought the Live! MP3 retail when it was new in '98. I still have it, but it is not 5.1 surround. It only has Creative 4 ch. output which doesn't work with DVD Audio or for Dolby Digital 5.1.

But that Live! MP3 had many more EAX (FX) options, and I had a tweak of
default reverb @80%
distortion @70%
male-to-female Pitch Shift @20%

I called this my Beatles tweak for MP3 files. It fattened up the otherwise very thin digital sound of the earlier remasters. The later digital remasters are richer and fatter.

i'm thinking it predated the one above, but 'valve' seems to ring a bell. it really was a while back when i used that thing... maybe ten years or so. i'm sure there's multiple plugins better and newer at this point, so it's kind of a moot point i think.

plus, winamp is a dead project. one of these days i need to figure out what the hell to replace it with. something that carries shoutcast, hopefully!
