Working on the inlaws pinball machine, when they got it the botom left (its got an upper left also) flipper was stuck up. I took it apart and the plunger was fused inside the coil. I got a new coil/plunger/sleeve/switch assembly, the switch at the coil not at the button, the name of that switch escapes me at the moment. I put it all back together and replaced a fuse and it worked fine.
Couple weeks later they said it was getting "lethargic" and when I went last night it was intermittent in its function. Still talking about the bottom left flipper.
So this is the behavior I'm seeing... It will sometimes wiggle when the button is pressed, sometimes fairly well it will flip a couple times in a row. If you were to take the glass off and move the flipper with your hand, it moves freely without the button pressed. When you move it part way and press the button it will stay put and resist moving but not complete the flip. If you move it by hand all the way up and press the button it stays put firmly.
Also tonight i cleaned the contacts at the button just to rule that out, and no help. I did see what looked like carbon on the new parts, I watched through the door (it must have a kill switch when the playing surface is lifted, it wont flip when its lifted) and when the flipper does flip it makes a bright flash from the switch set on the coil side of things. The right flipper mechanism does not make such flashes. The switches to keep it from burning up from holding the flipper up, are the switches I'm talking about.
So does this make any sense to anyone? The other two flippers, top left and bottom right, are nice and crisp.
Thanks
