Superbowl to Broadcast "Monsters Vs. Aliens" Spot in 3D (3D Glasses Required)

Superbowl Sunday: February 1, 2009. Only one week to go.

Dreamworks Animation will be running a 90 second spot for their upcoming 3D animated feature "Monsters Vs. Aliens" during the halftime intermission. It will be broadcast in 3D and Pepsi/Sobe is distributing the necessary glasses. They are free for the taking. There will also be an ad for either Pepsi or Sobe in 3D during the telecast, while on the following night NBC will be broadcasting an episode of the series "Chuck" in 3D and you will need a pair of the free glasses to view both features in 3D. Very good.

I picked up my glasses today. In the States you can find them in a display at your favorite supermarket or 7-11 wherever Pepsi/Sobe are sold. The glasses use the Intel Color Code 3D anaglyph system which differs from conventional color (anaglyph) red/blue glasses. The display is a 3 foot high stand with a box of the glasses. The glasses come in a sheet of four. The glasses are not pre cut, and here comes the fun part. The sheet of four glasses are perforated, but not the plastic lenses, so be sure to CAREFULLY CUT THEM OUT WITH SCISSORS AS INSTRUCTED! Also, be sure to CAREFULLY fold them along the perforations. They WILL NOT SIMPLY TEAR ALONG THE PERFORATIONS! You must CAREFULLY FOLD THEM ALONG THE PERFORATIONS IN BOTH DIRECTIONS until THE CARDBOARD SEAM GIVES WAY a bit.

Otherwise, no problem.

In case you have your glasses ALREADY CUT OUT OF THE SHEET, then here is a gallery of 3D pictures from the website for the company responsible for the Intel process and who, along with either NBC or Dreamworks Animation, FIGURED THEY COULD SAVE MONEY BY GIVING AWAY WHOLE SHEETS OF GLASSES WHICH MUST BE CUT OUT BY THE USERS while most folks will probably take home TWO OR MORE SHEETS JUST TO BE WELL STOCKED.

well there are NO 7/11's here in the states (Pa.) around me, We don't have these displays anywhere. but if these glasses are anything like the blue-red ones, I'll pass. All they did was induce migraines for me
oh wait I must BUY them? hahaha! thanks but no thanks, I thoughtthey would be free like the red-blue ones used to be hell I still have a pair of them from an old 3-d jigsaw puzzle of mine, did they ever work? nah all I ever saw was 2 images, one blue and one red next to each other. hence the headaches...

I'm not sure, but the articles on the web say nothing about DTV only.
I hope the 3D will be on both analog and DTV broadcasts.

Faralos, ask around Giant Eagle or any of the main supermarkets or check at Sunoco, Sheetz, or BP mini-mart stations. The glasses are free for the taking, but might cause a headache if you wear them for extended lengths of time. The two 3D features during Superbowl should be no problem. This is the site for the manufacturer of the glasses. They also offer all kinds of 3D glasses through their online store including permanent mount plastic frames and specialty filters for viewing solar eclipses or for creating optical hallucinations, and they also sell the infamous "X-Ray Specs" made famous by the Johnson-Smith Company. Real peepers, though it's only an illusion.

OMG I remember those xray specs on the back of many a comic book, while growing up! never understood how it could even be an optical illusion (my folks refused to waste money on an 'obvious waste of my dads hard-earned money') but then he went and bought those 'Sea Monkeys' for my kid sister, go figure...
Ok, we DO have giant eagle stores here, so I'll have a look-see there for the specs, and they Do look like a better upgrade than those notorious blue-red cardboard ones of days gone by.

They work, but the color is a mess because one eye is amber and the other indigo so don't expect great image quality. Again, the 3D works and that's what it's for.

As for X-Ray Specs: Ah, flashback! The comic books advertised Honor House who sold the x-ray specs. They were also sold mail order by Johnson-Smith.

In case you missed it and/or were disappointed by the 3D "effect" on a standard analog t.v. with or without the DTV converter box, and you still have the 3D glasses, try hulu.
The 3D is good on a computer monitor or HDTV, so click the menu button on the hulu player and click for full screen (best). Note that your computer monitor color settings must be correctly calibrated for the 3D to work as it should.
