I for one would be very interested in giving this a go...unfortunately no place around here that has any machines will ever get it...need to somehow get the cash to go to an expo or something, then maybe I might be able to play the new machines that I only hear about.

Oh yeah, it comes with a higher price tag, which is why a few of us are worried that we may never see one on location.

when was the last time a modern machine was themed to an old classic movie? is this meant to tie-in to some kind of anniversary restoration release of the film? in any case i find it very refreshing and welcome. i hope JJP somehow manages to stay in business.

Warners (the current IPO) did the 70th Anniversary digitally-restored in 5.1 sound DVD reissue of 'Oz in 2009, so that's not current to the machine, though it *may be promotional*.

In fact, the restored film played at digital theaters for one night only at the time, to promote the disk.

The use of classic themes in pinball are usually limited to famous figures. Elvis comes to mind.
In the past there have been knock-off themes such as Genesis, but they tend to use two or more sources; nothing specific.
Genesis was inspired by "Frankenstein" or "Bride of Frankenstein" and Fritz Lange's "Metropolis". The creature in the game is a female.

Xenon also used Metropolis.

In the past, classic themes from sources other than movies were used. Medusa (Greek Mythology) and Paragon (again, mythology, but with artwork inspired by Frank Frazetta).

I just found out that Frank Frazetta passed away May 10, 2010.

I also didn't know that he did the release poster for the 1965 movie, "What's New, Pussycat?". It definitely was a different style of artwork from that of the "Conan, the Barbarian" illustrations.

that's a really cute poster. reminiscent of the work of that mad magazine guy- jack davis i think? why can;t more films today use the whimsical / cartoonish posters instead of the modern motif where everyone's mugging like an idiot if it's a comedy or straining to look like a badass if it's an action movie? yea, yea... rhetorical question.

anyway, wow, didn't know or remember that frazetta had passed. it's hard enough knowing that jean giraud (moebius) passed a month ago. what's next- richard corben, ralph bakshi and don bluth going in april, may, june? they were / are all such geniuses in graphic story-telling.....

Yeah, I expect a rock deluge from the 60's/70's bands when the time comes. I don't want to be there though.

So Bill, as a DJ, did you get to meet any of the bands?
Did they mention "Arnold" or anyone like that?
