Bally Theatre of Magic (Bally, 1995) balls stuck in trap door feeder

Hi all, I've had a fabulous TOM machine for 5 years and can usually fault find the little issues but recently the balls get stuck in the feeder to the trap door. I can't see anything wrong with any of the switches and nothing seems to be obstructing their path. It doesn't ALWAYS happen. ie intermittent. but I can't seem to find out what makes it do so. It will do it in every game and then it's glass out, playfield lifted to retrieve balls

any advice appreciated.

..have since learned that the balls only get stuck when the trunk door is open.

Also when playfield up and power on discovered that there's no voltage getting to the pins on the release solenoid..

It's definitely this 'ball-hold' solenoid where the problem lies.
