tiltjlp hasn't been able to stay logged in @PN since late Friday night (No settings changes were made to the site on Friday) and he wanted me to post his email address:
edit: tiltjlp is back, email address removed

I've been trying to help him since then and perhaps some of you also are experiencing problems or have some suggestions, the thread entitled Security Tango was primarily posted because I emailed it to him earlier.
http://www.pinballnirvana.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=1433
http://securitytango.com/tango.php

He has been able to login with 2 different user names but as soon as he clicks on any link he gets logged off, It's a very strange problem that I can't duplicate...

Here is his original description of the problem:
I've had this problem since last night, and yes, I deleted all my cookies for both Opera and IE. The front page won't accept my log in, and although the forums do accept my log in, when I click on anything, my log in is forgotten.

I have been able to login with his username and password and the site works fine on my computer! Additionally, he reports the same problems are happening with a different Username of his.

PS: Weird stuff, I was in the middle of attempting to post this 3 and a Half Hours ago and my entire neighborhood lost power!

I opened this topic up for anonymous users to post in, wish I'd thought of that earlier, John should be able to post in here.

He may have a problem with Zone Alarm, whilst I like the program, I have had issues with some of its settings in the past

password manager

I use Opera, and previously I had the wand managing my passwords, with the setting being "allways on this server". when PO moved onto the same server as PN, that threw a spanner in the wands works literally.

I found the same problem myself, so I had to wipe the passwords from operas wand for both sites (in the opera-preferences-security dialogue I think)and then redo them selecting "for this page only". having done that, all was fine. I'll email this info to john later when I am back at my main computer as the notebook has no email set up currently.

I have Zone Alarm and occassionally have problems on this site where I can't download images, I can't even see an icon or thumbnail to click on. So Zone Alarm could well be the problem. I don't have the same problem with any other site though, which is strange. If you find a solution tell me as I would like to know too. I have just added Pinball Nirvana to the trusted zone so I'll try that.

I just emailed John about cooky settings in browser, firewall, anti spyware programs and to try to allow/enable cookies once just for registering and then switch back to previous settings.

Let's hope that helps. To a certain degree I'm sure that's the problem.

I run following problem before on my own:

I got network timeout messages from firefox when trying to login. Problem solved by increasing timeout time from 300 to 500 in this line when you run about:config in firefox:

network.http.keep-alive.timeout

Just to let anyone else with the same problem know.

Thanks for this, I'm pretty confident that this is his problem! I was unable to duplicate the errors while troubleshooting with Opera (my version works fine) and I know he uses it.
I thought about the Pinball-Originals factor, the site has been on the server for months but just went live and they use different cookies. I found a related article about UserNames and Passwords with Opera:

Edit: sorry for the double post

Just testing to see if I could log in. The only time I had problems logging in here was when I lost my password for my first sign up and couldnt seem to get it back. And also when Flipperless changed to Pinball Nirvana.
The site does seem to loading rather slow as of now for me. And for some strange reason I cant reach VPF at all as of right now. All my browsers say the VPF site can not be found. Ah well I'll try later.

Found some additional information about images not showing up for some users, ZoneAlarm, other firewalls and image blockers could be blocking them.

I know tiltjlp also has this problem with some images and i discovered that ZoneAlarm treats some images (avatars) as banners. I would try to use a different browser and if that didn't work, temporarily disable your firewall and see if you can view the images that weren't visible before.

Here is a link that might help:

The site is loading very slow and I've been in the process of working on the speed issues.

Hello again folks. Everything is back to normal, and none of the possible problems that were pointed out were a factor. I don't use the Wand feature in Opera, nor Zone Alarm. What I think happened, although I haven't a clue why, is that Jon made some behind the scenes user group changes, and that change involving me messed up my permissions. He has since undid that change and so I'm back, none the worse for wear.

Welcome Back John,
The User Group permissions had no effect and worked properly for a test account and your Username. You reported the same problems with a different Username so group permissions can be ruled out, i believe Pinball-Originals went online the same day that the problems arose.

Maybe it's yet another of life's many unanswered myateries. Being non-tech, I probably wouldn't understand the real reason it happened. I'm just glad it didn't last any longer.

you're back then :(
:D

I bet that was Shocky.

As long as he's not on my plane!!!

I'll have a look at the Zone Alarm link as I can see the link on my Pirate Gold WIP screenie at work but not at home. I know work has a fairly heavy duty hardware firewall as I work at a university so it must be some setting in Zone Alarm. Funny, as Pinball Nirvana is listed as a trusted site in Zone Alarm - Geez I trust you guys ;)
