my take on his popularity is something like this-- ignorance is bliss, and we live in an increasingly complex world. i see this as directly leading to the modern phenomenon of "the celebration of ignorance." now, this is something which can be really healthy on one hand... and something which we all partake in to one degree or another, honestly.

the problem is that ignorance also carries within itself a 'bad seed' of false confidence. dunning - kruger describes this nicely.

long story short-- a blowhard / con-man such as trump is highly positioned to appeal to a base of fools and easy marks in the current climate.

the scary thing is that, unlike various historical scenarios in which people living in dire straits tended to gravitate to autocrats like this, is that there's a strong american entitlement complex behind the current yearning... at least equally powerful as the actual difficulties of living in the USA today, i think.

i mean, just look at the fairly recent rise of the tea party and even the election of bush junior (an utter disaster which is now bringing europe to its knees via the immigration problems). that is... this kind of problem seems on the rise and not likely to get better, soon.


btw... i don't have a lot of confidence in bernie sanders on the other extreme. he very much seems like one of those career activists indignant about almost everything who proclaims "the revolution is coming." his ideas and plans seem out of touch with how reality actually operates. paul krugman of the NYT recently featured a roundup of economists addressing sanders' financial plans, and found them to be pretty much complete nonsense.

The only real government that we have are the courts. And the best that we can hope for is someone who will Bumble in the right direction. Most folks vote to block The President or Congress from running with the ball. Currently we have Obama vs. a GOP Congress.
I suspect we will be seeing a Clinton vs. Trump November.

For the first time since I became a registered voter, I don't give a shit about a presidential election. A guy who hosted a reality-TV show is winning his party's nomination. I'm going to wait while you read that again. I keep wanting to point to the Kurt Vonnegut book where that happens, but there isn't one. Apparently, that idea was just too fucking weird for Kurt Vonnegut. Or Philip K. Dick, for that matter. And all the Democrats have to offer are two seniors who are, in the immortal words of Sgt. Roger Murtaugh, too old for this shit. Especially if Hillary is elected. Or when she's elected, since that's what will probably happen. When she does, I'll bet dollars to doughnuts she'll be facing the same Congress that Obama's had so much fun with. And that's an appetizer compared to the main course that will be served up in November. The Republican members of Congress are, for the most part, about my age: we'll say 55 and younger. And they have been raised with one abiding principle: they fucking hate Hillary Clinton. Back in the '90s, did any of you have a co-worker run up to you all bug-eyed, yammering about how the Clintons had over a hundred people murdered? If you haven't heard of it, you should Google it. It's the right-wing lunatic version of all those hacky-sack fucktards who think Bush blew up the World Trade Center. But those "Tea-Party" Republicans are the ones who believe it 110%. They have done nothing but seethe for 20 years over how that murdering bitch killed all those people and still managed to hide the hundreds of millions of dollars she made on Whitewater. Now just imagine how hungry the dumbest, meanest dog you've ever seen can get in 20 years. Everything that's been going on will pale in comparison to the complete and utter fuckery that this government will experience with her as president. Meanwhile, S.S. America will sink beneath the waves while our elected leaders argue about which one of them started the fire that sunk the ship. I think the only person who's blameless in that scenario is Billy Joel. Pistoles! istoles:

I don't know If Donald Trump should be president. I found him very inspirational back in the early eighties. It was his ' Get It Done ' ... ' Always Follow Through On Things To The End ' philosophy.
